Different perspective for not starting the starters in preseason...

Hiding Bryce is the biggest joke of a take I’ve read. Let’s talk about how good Bryce played at joint practice, build up some hype, hide him, then start him to let everyone down during the regular season. What could go wrong??

I mean, it just a variation of the take that was applied last year....and which was basically correct.

only real difference is the vet Frank gave a tiny look at Bryce.  But he didn't rep Bryce like you would because it was just going to highlight the fact he couldn't function in the base O.  Which he couldn't.

and it doesn't take rocket science to know Bryce flat out doesn't fit Canales' chunk pass game.

I’m not sure what Canales’ offense is. He only called plays once for one year. If Bryce doesn’t work hiding him until the regular season does nothing. It just makes it look worse. That’s why the hiding Bryce take is just dumb. Is he hiding all of his starters to protect Bryce as well?

hiding bryce?

 lol y'all are something else.

Here is my take about these crazy takes going around.

Certain people are wanting to see Bryce in preseason so they can critique and overreact to every play he does.  The same type of people that get mad that a 50 yad pass wasn't a TD type of nonsense.  Bryce not playing in the preseason gives them less to complain about so they still turn it into a Bryce thing and scream our staff is "hiding" their starting QB.  I think some people are stuck with Bryce brain.

There will be plenty of ammo to use in the "Bryce sucks" cannon once the real games start. I have no idea what the rush is in that regard.

Who the fug cares about preseason anyway? Bunch of fuging vanilla playcalling and vanilla play. It's glorified practice.

Seriously.  He is our QB this year.  If healthy he will get plenty of opportunities to prove himself and plenty of plays to whine or cry about.  If he sucks again we just move on.  Preseason isn't changing any of this.

What happened to the belief that the Oline needed time to gel? Those guys need the reps. Has the starting Oline even had a single practice together this camp?

The Panthers don't have the talent other teams do. The starters getting more reps won't offset that talent difference, but it wouldn't make them worse.

I don't think the whole unit has been healthy yet.  I think that's part of the problem.  Even our backup OT Yosh is injured.

I just want to see how good the chemistry between him and Dionte is so I have a better idea of where to pull the trigger for my flex WR.

That's fair.  I feel like Dionte will be force fed early on, similar to AT last year.

Injuries have made that difficult.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
