I mean, Ron Rivera is basically Vince Lombardi compared to the Tepper era folks.  Not really the time or place for Ron bashing given what Rhule, Frank and now Dave have done.

Ron Rivera without Cam Newton would have been fired by his third season. He only became Riverboat because Cam kept prodding him.

alternative argument.  Cam Newton was really only Cam Newton because Ron Rivera drafted him....and created a world where a unicorn would thrive vs bust out.  Majority of NFL head coaches weren't going to create the world that existed in Carolina for Cam.   They would have stuck with their systems, not green lighted a college O and a world for Cam's personality to take over the game.

Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly both became GOATS under the LB/Def savy Ron too.  He gets credit for nothing that occurred.  All painted as things that fell into his lap.

Ron was flawed. Ron doesn't get enough credit either.

He looked good when they went to an NFL system...then the hit happened. I always wanted Ron to force it way earlier.

he stat sheet looked good to open up a season.  That was basically the transition and birth of checking down too much to CMC though IMO.  Which birthed the 1k/1k season the next year.

Drafting a unicorn at QB changed everything. Ron had his moments and overall I liked the man and respected him aside from the moments of frustration with his gameday management at times. And his penchant for being comically loyal to his vet players.

Although ultimately all of it boiled down to that fateful Super Bowl. Cam let us down. And Ron Rivera with his usual stubbornness damn sure did.

He looked like he was getting comfortable in it but yeah it's not like it was amazing from the get go. Still it looked promising. Those checkdowns opened up stuff he could take shots at vs always checking down to CMC after him.

John Fox and Ron Rivera were solid NFL coaches.  I just can't get down with folks saying the Tepper era is comparable coach wise.

Canales job is to win games .   If he keeps Young at QB he will lose not only games but the locker room as well .    He needs to light a fire under some asses and give Bryce only the next game by halftime .  If he looks bad pull him and put in Dalton ,  We will also lose the fanbase and every game will be a home game for the other team .

Until there is a Qb change, nothing will change for the Panthers

young has been coddled, and continues to be

he has shown absolutely nothing that makes him fit for the NFL

it will not change

as the old engineering saying goes ‘you can’t fix a bad design’ and Young is not designed for the NFL

in a grown man’s league, with teammates looking to get paid for their own performance plus for incentives and playoffs, the locker room will do what the Panthers owner, GM and coaching staff won’t.   As will the Panthers fans who will not turn out for a nfl QB who can’t complete a pass.  Tepper can enjoy being the home field for visitors.

    • You literally did it right there and didn't even remember it. Sorry long Friday.
    • TMac to finish up Feels good after pads came on. Physicality is a little different, playstyle is a little different. Refs let the players play, so he has to earn his stripes to get calls and just has to be better playing through contact. Focusing on staying confident and listening to coaches. Not much has changed for him, still trying to be his authentic self. Was asked about boxing practice he was seen doing. He's done that since he was a kid because his dad was a boxer and taught his siblings. Was the youngest and got beat up the most, but now he's the fourth of sixth children. Boxing helps with his cardio and being reactive with his hands to the ball + DB. Admits to struggling the first couple of days, hats off to the DB corps for making him better every single day but had his best day on Wednesday. Even the best get got. Just have to remain confident in preparation and abilities. Confidence will take you only so far, and that's where his resilience plays a factor. XL is authentic and great to have in the room. Can rely on him to be the same guy every day. They make each other better. Everybody feeds off of each other and when one person wins they all win. Happy to be a part of the receiver room. Was asked about how he was laughing harder than everybody else at XL getting his feet in the water off the back of the boat: "Man he needs to be stopped bro... He can't be serious but he was serious. It's all good." Playing against the increased amount of press he's facing in practice is helping him get more physical. His job is to catch the ball, so if it touches his hand he has to come down with it. Only catches with one hand if he needs to, but that gives the QB a bigger catch radius. Had a pregame routine where he did a 360 one-handed catch, but doesn't do it anymore. Working on being a pro: Getting into the facility early and getting treatment, eating better, etc. Just wants to win re: rookie goals. Anything he can do to help the team win. "I'm looking for to the season man and keep pounding."
    • DJ Wonnum up next Felt the defense came out ready to work at all levels and took over practice. New standard around here. Young guys have to know they're coming in to work. Last year was not the standard. Nic and Princely are fun. Different personalities but loves what they bring to the room. Sky is the limit for them. Nic sits next to Wonnum, Princeley sits next to Jones II. Allows them to be better mentors. Feels great and ready to go Incoom's athleticism allows him to bend and get low even to compensate for not being the biggest guy. Can set the edge. EDGE guys are helped when the ILBs can get home because it allows them to be a little more free while still in scheme. DB being back means his dominance is back. Can set the edge from the 3 or wherever he's at to make the runs bounce to the EDGE guys. Winning mentality and standard this year. Championship level from practice to how you live off of the field. Accept greatness and excellence with guys wanting to come to work every day. Not settling for anything less. Been in guys' shoes that are fighting for roster spots so he knows how to address them. Remembers not knowing what's next, especially as a rookie. Have a clear mind and ask the older guys a lot of questions. Has a good relationship already with Pat Jones II due to knowing each other and talking football all of the time. Can make hand gestures and know immediately what to adjust. Taking care of his body and excited to start the season. Getting it acclimated to football again by being able to tackle and bring players to the ground. Didn't know they were playing live tomorrow. Don't tell me it'll be "thud." Browns next week will allow them to hit somebody else and get a feel of what a different team is doing. Also allows the team to see where they're at on offense and defense. Ready to play football. Not worried about the QB matchup for Cleveland, going to play hard regardless of who is back there.
