Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 4 loss to Bengals

I'd just get backup as close to Dalton as I could get and take a flier on any other young QB that Canales likes and we can get for a bargain whether it's draft or trade or UDFA whatever.

And yeah use the high picks and most FA to get straight on D.

Well would you prefer he doesnt develop at all? We drafted him it’s done, let’s hope it pans out.

Yep, that’s what I said. If he suddenly becomes Julius Peppers that would be nice.

Exactly, we have to develop rotational players, not just starters.  Not every draft pick has to be a starter.

We have nobody at edge right now. I’d expect a 26 year old that we used a 3rd and 4th on would be developed.

It amazes me how low our expectations are right now that a guy with 1 TFL and 1 QB hit and a half sack in 4 games is a feel good story.

We need more than a feel good story. I’d bet there is at least one bench edge player on the other 31 teams that could step in and start for us right now. DJ Johnson is tied for 189th place in sacks with a half sack. That’s basically 6 guys for every team with a sack.

I don’t know why, but it annoys me when guys get lauded for below average play with no real impact. Our OL is having a huge impact, as is Dalton, but DJ is far from impact and hopefully gets replaced in the draft.

O line is set, but they still should draft some pieces to keep improving that unit. Offseason should be about fixing the defense. I think we should wait on QB unless you can get someone like Ward in the 2nd

Set for this season - keep in mind, Corbett and I believe Moton will be UFA

Good stuff. If you go all the way down to 43 you can find a 6th overall pick in his 3rd season.

Icky’s 17 losses matches the combined total of Hunt, Lewis, Corbett and Motion.
I don’t see Zavala.

Just imagine if we took the easy layup and drafted Cross. This could be an all time passing OL

If this OL stays like the first 4 weeks, you will have QBs asking to sign here. That was my whole point about the QB- build the team, but tepper was tired of waiting. I know for a fact he told many in BOA that watson would be a panther and stafford came was close too. The deal with baker and darnold, the team around them is better including the staff which is what has plagued the panthers.

6 years is long time to wait and when they could not find a QB savior, they drafted/forced one. That has proved to be the biggest mistake.

This OL is not allowing pressures and able in the run game. Got two young talented WRs and a TE that could turn a corner too. There are other darnolds and bakers like QBs just looking for a the right fit. If brooks can catch it also adds. Theres a decent group for 2025 and who knows about the cuts, geno smith could be cut. I think they sign drew lock and try to surprise the league.

Build the whole team and QBs will come.

My Canales approval had a large element of the QB whisper stuff.

Having a coach with those skills in place here when scouting Young's replacement was big positive for me.

    • You are right--it was DC.  I remember talking to him at Belk in Albemarle one day--the Panthers were on a bye and they were (at the time) a disapointing 4-4.  I mentioned that the record was disappointing and he seemed to get a bit annoyed.  He dId not say anything.  I trying to suggest that we will get better, but I think he was pretty upset about it.  No hard feelings, but the man was simply trying to shop with his wife and this annoying jerk starts making comments about his job---I get it.  I apologized, telling him that I was trying to be supportive and not critical--he did not think it was a big deal.  I'd see him at events from time to time-he'd wave or say hi, but it was awkward for me.  Figured I would say something stupid.  Jordan was pretty popular--nothing like she seems to be now--she is holding her own in a man's world...proud of her.
    • Like we have had the last 3 years.
    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
