Give Morgan Credit

Yeah, much like Gettleman had to dig out of the cap mess created by Hurney 1.0, Morgan is going to have to navigate the mess that Rhule/Fitterer left in terms of an utterly talent devoid roster.

Hard to say how it will turn out, after all, Gettleman also ended up not only authoring some of the biggest free agency blunders we have ever made but his drafts really fell apart at the end and he ended up a failure.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Morgan ultimately fail but a lot of these problems aren't his making....yet.

What FA blunders? We paid Kalil $31M for mediocre to bad results. Short was a good deal as we got good output during the guarantee. The problem was that Marty came back and let him keep playing and getting diminishing results and injuries. He was correct on Olsen and Marty just gifted him more money when he was hurt and he never was close to the same. Josh Norman was a bit of a fiasco but honestly, he sure didn’t look worth the money and he never came close to 2015 again.

Other than that, all I recall is cheap dumpster diving. Trai Turner was extended by Marty.

I know DG wasn’t a good GM but Marty spent like a drunken sailor as soon as he came back. We paid Teddy as much for one season as we paid for all years of Matt Kalil. Totaling up the FA spending from 2018 to 2020 with Marty 2.0 far exceeded what DG did.

As to the drafts, it’s funny that 2017, Dave’s last draft with us was his best. CMC, Moton, Samuel and Butker is the best we’ve done since, geez, probably close to 20 years we’d have to go back. It doesn’t make up for the rest of the draft mistakes but it’s funny that his last draft was his best with us and it shows what we’ve done wrong since only 1 player is actually still on the team.

We traded back before we traded up and acquired a future 2nd in the process.  It's not like we threw away additional high picks to get him.  I think it was a couple 5ths that we just acquired or got back regardless.  5th rounds picks were being written off as not worth our time for AT and DJ earlier.

We did however use our 2nd on a player that isn't able to contribute right away and that really hurts with as many holes as we have on this roster.  The pick itself was questionable.  The trade up part of it was no big deal though.  In totality we dropped back some spots and got a 2025 2nd plus Brooks.

and for the record, Brooks was a monster at Texas and we should wait until he takes the field before we make a final judgement on the move.

As it stands, we already have a very good running back and man it'd be sweet if we had more young defenders, tho.

you are totally missing the point and I could easily argue Brooks was not a monster at UT last year, he fed on poo teams

Dude I’m agreeing with you. I said I’d rather have a young defender with that pick than a luxury rb, even tho I think brooks is gonna be pretty good.

his stats dont jump off from at #3 Alabama, and it was early in the year before Saban sacrificed the right number of coeds, but he put the game away. Alabama just ate Texas’ oline up. Also he was blocking and chipping a lot and just like you, me, and most people in fourth grade and above he’s already better than miles sanders.

also shoutout to future panther ja’tavion sanders just not holding on to the ball at all

He played great against Oklahoma too. Now sure yeah Oklahoma I get it but that’s a will venables defense. Also oh my god Texas’ oline fuging blew in this game.

Sanders has been Bryce Young-esque.

    • ^I want that, but Rodriguez over KC. Don't hate KC as much at that spot, but rather take a WR with the pick we gain in that trade than in the 1st.
    • I think there is good points in this thread to what the team needs to do. 1) Ball isn't really the issue but, he needs reigned in.  Coach and he need to realize when things aren't falling from the three and learn to play other facets of the game.  He's an amazing talent and when he's on, he's on.  But he can also shoot you out of a game.  We're lucky Miami went that way but that is too many missed threes.  He still needs to bulk up if he can, but he needs to drive more.  He's pretty good at finishing usually and hopefully the fouls come (probably not though).   2) The whole team needs to be more physical.  As others have stated, we need more bulk in our bigs.  Diabate is a hurricane of energy but cannot go against the larger centers.  I love him on the team but he should be more of a match up type guy or energy off the bench.  I think he'd be insane off the bench.  However I think the biggest issue with Diabate and Kaulk is the lack of offensive game.  The lack of a jump shot or anything.  Teams figured out to just leave them on the screen and crash lanes.  There has to be some sort of threat.  We need a 4 and a 5 that can do those things and stretch out the court. 3) Bridges.  He's just undersized.  However, I feel he really threw his all into it the last few weeks when others were gassed.  He was ok not being a focal point.  I'd like to have him off the bench as well but I assume he'd be traded to make things work.  4) Miller.  Dude can light it up when on, but disappears for quarters at a time.  Also he needs to work on ball handling and passing.  He's a turnover machine at bad times.  Also hopefully over the injury so he can bulk up too.   5) Kon. Just a rookie.  Long season and back injury.  I have no doubt he'll be back stronger and focused.  Needs to work on defense and physicality like the whole team but yes, a rookie he'll get there. 6) Coby.  Has to be resigned, no question.  The bench lineup is rough without him running the point.  Team has big potential and the front office seems sharp.  They seen the hive and how crazy it got and how much the city wants this.
