4-3

Problem A) Roster isn't very good.

Problem B) Defensive coaching also hasn't been very good.

Problem C) We are in a really weird spot where half the defense is more suited for a 4-3 and the other half a 3-4.

Changing schemes can sometimes get the best out of players if they are better suited for one, problem is half our guys would be in more of a fit and the others would be out of place.

We have a lot of schematic flexibility moving forward simply because we pretty much need an entire new front seven. LOL

Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

At this point we can choose the change away from our base 3-4 defense (and we should). We have like four guys on defense (counting the injured reserve guys) who could start on other teams and seven starters who might make second string on their own.

It's time for Tepper to put his baby Pittsburgh aspirations aside and get back to the 4-3 defense.

(And those four are Brown, Thompson, Horn and Woods if you were wondering.)

This has been the case ever since Ron hyped us all up on the switch to a 3-4 but then proceeded to run the exact same defense we'd been running.

Yeah and Rhule/Snow running the hybrid 3-3-5 didn't help because they brought in a mixture to the already split group.

Realistically the base probably doesn't matter too much, since they're probably in nickel or dime most of the time.

I think that will shift in the next few years. The NFL is cyclical, so I suspect offenses will start morphing back towards some smash mouth football to counter changes to defenses to stop all the pass happy, high flying offenses with a lot of smaller, faster players.

Not an original thought, I have heard it echoed numerous times by multiple prognosticators over the past couple of seasons.

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
