We absolutely need to get the #1 pick.

These teams like Jacksonville who already have a QB will just trade it to a QB needy team like Vegas/Cleveland.

I prefer we get the #1 pick and trade back. We need more than a QB and I'm not high on any of these QBs.

Do the Jags have a QB?

I'd rather draft a clear bust like Bryce, someone you can move on quickly from, over someone like Lawrence that can fool you into thinking you have a franchise QB but really you have complete mid. In that regard our season has been a complete success. We know we don't have a QB and need to find one. The Jags are going to convince themselves that its everybody elses fault except Lawrence and be stuck another 5 years.

Lawrence blows

The Jags are a perfect example of why you can't pay JAG starting QBs like franchise QBs. Honestly, if you don't have an MVP caliber QB you're better off just letting him walk and starting over because as soon as you pay that JAG what any starting QB is going to command to re-sign now you're fuged. Now that guy can't carry your team with the holes that cap space eating contract is going to create.

This is a good point and something that has been discussed on the Athletic football podcast a few times.

Right now it only makes sense to pay true game changers at QB: Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc. OR pay someone like Baker or Geno mid tier money. Yes you might not get top flight QB play with Baker or Geno each week but the alternative is overpaying for a Baker or Geno level player at max value.

the other option is to just keep drafting QBs but this has a really high bust rate and it takes time to develop those guys

Dead serious what do you think it would take Jax to trade Lawrence this offseason (I am not adovcating doing this) but with his contract and current level of play it might only be like a third or fourth rounder. Doesn't fit our timeline at all and we need picks but a team like the NYG might pull the trigger

    • There's a flip side to that, if he has 2 or 3 more great games and we make the playoffs, there's going to a tsunami of momentum to extend him going into next year. If he remains inconsistent, we will all be arguing all off season long. I think he's done enough to where he's going to at the very least, be the starter in 2026. Nothing is going to change that with 7 wins on the board at this point, even if we flame out and lose the remainder of them. We haven't won 7 games  If we win 8 games, that would be our highest win total since the 2017 season. That's very significant.
    • GWD is the critical stat for an NFL QB. What you need for perspective is GWD %.  This is how many opportunities he converts. 2023 was 12.5%. 2024 was 33.3%. 2025 is 50%. Career is 28.9%. A consistent playoff winning QB is in the 30% range. A championship caliber QB is in the 40% range. He has been tracking well even with his major limitations under the development of Canales. This is the only reason he is holding on, but he is at the same level of a Derek Carr with the Raiders. Carr was 32.4% GWD in his first 3 seasons with 12 GWD in 37 opportunities. This gives you perspective on why he is frustrating to evaluate. Carr did what for the Raiders? 2 winning seasons in 9 seasons with 4 different HCs/OCs. This is what we want as Panthers fans? A decade of average with potential and many moments of hope? At least he'll win a QB skill competition like Carr, right?
