C Mays / LT Christensen LT vs C Christensen / LT Ekwonu

BC looked good against a bad Saints defense. Icky has been solid at LT all year and still hasn’t reached his ceiling. I kind of like BC at center.

Saints have been terrible since week 2 and they were missing both top CBs. Much easier to protect when their pass rush is meh and the WRs can get open easily.

I also think it says a lot about Nijman that they thought BC at LT and Mays at C was a better combo than Nijman at LT and BC at C.

I think this is basically just tinkering with no possible good end result. If you wanted to try for that in the offseason, I would be fine with that but if you don't like Ekwonu's feet at LT, you REALLY aren't going to like Hunt/Lewis, IMO.

A smarter move would be to eventually shoot for an eventual move for Ikey to RT when Moton retires/moves on and then get a good(needs to be better) LT in the draft.

At least if you go that route you are planning for the future.

I don't know that Christensen is necessarily a long-term solution at left tackle (though I do believe he's better at that position than some give him credit for). My favorite spot for him is as our utility guy.

I've mentioned before that Ickey to right tackle is a move I could get on board with. Moton is still our best option there right now, but for how much longer?

Biggest deal for me is still that I want us to get a true center. I don't see Christensen as the future there...and I'm still pissed off that we passed on Zach Frazier 🤬

So basically, an offseason plan of moving Ekwonu right, getting a true center and a top left tackle would be a great plan for me.

Seems like a lot of change and investment  in a unit that is already decent on a roster that has many holes… Next year we just need to figure out center.

I would hesitate to jettison Moton until we have our LT in place, unless he chooses to go or we have to do it for cap reasons.

I agree on center. Passing on Frazier was absolutely moronic. TBH, not 100% sure we will be able to get that this offseason but we should target before the start of the 2026 season without any question.

How quickly we forget the Atlanta game. Brady was the reason a few of our drives stalled as Grady Jarrett single handedly beat him across his face to tackle Chuba for big losses. That hadn't happened to Corbett all year. Ickey has played solid and graded out well this year. Now once Moton retires, moves on, we will have a place to start BC. Whether that is at LT or RT remains to be seen, but Cade played better at C yesterday than BC. BC is not the future at center, but right tackle.

That's true, he was getting literally rag dolled by Jarrett.

Mays is definitely worse but he is a stronger dude.

I just want somebody to settle into that Hangartner role and I may give Mays too much credit. He played so well early and has fell off since injuries crept into his vocabulary.  He was struggling to get push on those goal line runs today.

Not suggesting Moton be jettisoned. Just wondering how much longer he's around.

Possible, but you never know.

I think that's Christensen's role.

I think he was always a replacement level player. Best suited as a backup, at best.

I'd like to see the final stretch of games this year with a consitent unit of Icky-Lewis-BC-Hunt-Moton. They seem to be our strongest group together but haven't played a ton together due to injury.

If/when we move on from Moton, I think Icky would be the better RT and keep BC at LT. IDK if Mays or Raym is the answer at C, but the latter could be a gem with another year or so under his belt. After seeing what Coker and Richardson have done for us in the UDFA market, testing out a true C from a school like OU gives me hope.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
