Thomas Brown and Caleb Williams just put up this passing chart

Caleb Williams did not complete a single pass beyond 6 yards downfield until the final drive of regulation in the Bears’ TNF loss to the Seahawks.

🔸 Under 10 AY: 15/17, 107 yards (+4.5% CPOE)
🔸 Over 10 AY: 1/9, 15 yards, INT (-27.2% CPOE)

Looks so much like a lot of 2023 Panthers pass charts.

That clock management on the last drive and not attempting the long tying fg was real real bad. % on making that kick had to be higher than picking up 4th and 10 when you'd score 3 pts all game

When a franchise fires the last guy for bad time management, yesterday likely sealed Brown's fate. Also the fact this is the second rookie QB he has struggled to work with, that's a big black mark on his resume regardless of how much of the responsibility falls on him.

Caleb will be fine with the right coaching in my opinion. Thomas Brown ain't it. He'll never reach his potential being handcuffed. The young man is talented, but he holds on to the ball entirely too long. He's got to learn that the NFL is a different animal.

Caleb needs protection more than anything else. Yes, some of that is on him but there were times when he had no chance.

Caleb's body language is really worrying, though, because if there's one definite advantage Bryce has over Caleb, it's the mental part. Caleb had some moments during his senior year that had me worried whether he could handle adversity at the highest level. Not to say he can't suddenly play better if/when things improve, but it may be tougher for him.

There are a handful (a very small handful) of NFL qb's in history that were able to handle it.  Cam Newton, mainly because of his size and strength.  Jayden seems to be doing ok but that is because he had an almost idea setup and he played a lot more games in college than the majority of these guys do. But If he were in Chicago, not sure he would be doing any better than Williams.

Most of the NFL greats (Brady, Montana, Mahomes, Bradshaw, Staubach etc...) sat for a while.  There is this myth that today's qb's are able to play right away because of what they did in college.  It ain't true.

Small handful? There are dozens of QBs that started their rookie years and your examples are a bit of a stretch as proof:

Brady - 6th rounders don’t usually even make a team yet he became the starter year 2.

Mahomes - like Rodgers, he was drafted into a team with a playoff QB already entrenched and

Bradshaw - Started 8 games his rookie year.

Montana - like Brady, 3rd rounders QBs are absolutely not expected to start their rookie year and most times they don’t ever become starters. He became the starter year 2.

Staubach - this is a silly example. He was a 10th rounders pick because he spent 5 years in the military after Navy. He didn’t play football for 5 years and he’s an example of a QB not starting as a rookie?

Here’s a bunch of examples of successful QBs that were rookie starters since Cam and some old ones I remember: Elway, Marino, Aikman, the entire Manning family, Newton, Stroud, Lamar, Wentz, Goff, Mayfield, Allen, Stafford, Lawrence, Mac Jones (jk), Watson (before happy endings), Tannehill, Luck, Burrow, Herbert and Tua. There’s even less than successful QBs who were rookie starters like Murray, Trubisky, Jones, Winston, Mariota, Bortles, RG3 and maybe Bryce. Heck, Winston and RG3 went to the pro bowl his rookie year.

I’d be curious to see where Caleb ranks on pass attempts behind the LOS

I feel like Thomas Brown calls a crap load of this stuff to try and keep some of his WR’s engaged particularly DJ Moore. Caleb’s downfield accuracy is some of the worst I’ve ever seen

Stats back that up

Jeez

    • Well bois, we gave the Devils their due! Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery... The jersey boys have been trying to jack our steeze for a few years now. They've followed our blueprints and studied our tape. Every offseason, they pounce on our sloppy seconds in a Newark minute. Quick with the puck, ferocious on the forecheck and stifling team defense. Down to the colors, this is this closest we'll come to having to play ourselves in Ole Stanley's Hockey Hoedown. As the postseason began, Rod stood flexing in the gym mirror and saw this guy staring back from the void... (Shutters) When beating us at our game didn't work, Timo and the Tri-State Trash tried to tango instead. Outside of a bitchass cheapshot on Freddie, that poo didn't work either. Their goon squad was getting wrecked by our bantam weights. As much as we all wanted to see Svechy or Staal Bunyan literally break someone in half after the Great Dane went down, they didnt need to. Our munchkins were monsters! Jarvis obliterating giants at the blue line, Logan laying the Stank on dudes twice his size and Blakers blasting Timo into next season. It was beautiful to see! (Side note: Does JBlo wear lead weights under his pads? 170lbs shouldn't be able to hit that hard!) We closed it out in 5, for the gentleman's sweep. Only team in the league to win a series in each of the past 7(?) seasons! And, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year... Onto the awards: Key To The Series : 6 for 19 - .316% IT FINALLY WORKED!!! MVP : 16/180 g/s - .911 save% - 2.53 gaa Seriously, without this dude, we would've won in 3! (Trust me bro) 3rd Star : 6/94 g/s - .936 save % - 1.59 gaa The Great Dane   2nd Star : 3 g - 5 a - +1 - 20:38 toi/g - 18 hits - 3 bs - 58.1% fo 3 PP goals and the 2OT series winning goal! WOOAAAHHH NELLY!!!!   And, your 1st Star of the series : 5 g - 1 a - +3 - 16:48 toi/g - 16 hits - 1 bs - 1 tk - 50% fo Zero, I repeat, zero penalty minutes for the series! MISSSTAAAHHH SVEEECHNIKOOOV!!!!!! Onto The Next: Now, we wait for the Habs to make it a nasty 7 game slog, while we recuperate. And, hopefully, get Nikishin, and some of the other black aces some real peactice time. We are gonna need those guys at some point. Because, if you think the Devils were dirty, hoooo boy, wait till you see what's next...
