Carolina may not "be sold" on young (per athletic)

I think we end up closer to 10

We very well could end up splitting with the Bucs due to their injuries, beating the Cowboys and Arizona seems to really struggle when travelling all the way to Charlotte. Atlanta could end up resting all their starters the last week too

Even 2 more wins combined with all the bad teams this year puts us way back. Some of those bad teams do still play each other but unless we lose out (I doubt that happens) we’re going to be closer to 10

Regardless, I'll probably rather go defense first, then pick a second round QB, like Ewers, even if we have to trade a few spots to get the top second round qb.

If Young’s as bad as everybody says he is then yeah, it is plausible.

We have some divisional games and also Dallas, who may have a worse QB situation.

We are also considerably higher in SOS so we lose most tie breakers.

Even if Bryce started stinking it up, we would likely just switch back to Dalton.

I agree on most of this but Arizona is a REALLY bad matchup for us. A bruising running game and very mobile QB. That is perfectly made to march all over our defense.

This is one of the tighest races for the bottom I have seen in a while.

Sign a veteran bridge QB (or re-sign Andy for this role).

Draft Cam Ward.

Let bridge QB start and Cam sit and learn for a bit.

Profit.

I agree on Ward. But at this point it is a nonstarter to consider keeping Dalton. He has been only marginally better than Bryce Young and those two stinkers against the Bears and Commanders are why we were one of the only teams to seek out his services. Need to look elsewhere.

Horn is an elite CB. Fields will be on his third team in five years next season.

We got one of the worst defenses in the leagues with Horn. A QB is always better value than a corner. And look at the Bears it’s not like Caleb is lighting it up with even more help.

He played winning football and has shown far more flashes than Bryce.

I wanted him then and he’s the best path forward still today.

Yeah I'd rather keep Dalton, fields can't see the field or make good decisions

Fields is the play and it’s been the play since we drafted Horn over him. Sign him.

Having Fields would just put us in QB purgatory. Not good enough to win in the playoffs, not bad enough to draft high enough to get a QB. Fields is literally the worst possible scenario. Give me another season of Young over Fields

Talk about purgatory.

You're blaming Jaycee Horn because we gutted the defense to reallocate significant resources to the offense in order to attempt to make Bryce Young look like a real QB?

Yeah Fields is what he is. He’ll never be the type to pick apart a defense but he can run like hell and throw a very pretty deep ball.

You can work with that. Doubt it’ll win you a superbowl but it could probably get you to the playoffs pending the rest of the roster

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
