People said the same thing about Sam Darnold in New York. I think Jones is the same player as Darnold tbh. I think he goes into the right environment and he will be okay. It doesn't need to be here though. It needs to be with a Kevin O'Connell, Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Sean Payton type. 

I don't think Dave is there yet despite his success with Baker. He is still learning how to be a HC.

Jones was a Dave Gettleman special. Good thing we let Dave go when we did, otherwise the Panthers would have eventually wasted a high draft pick on a Q….

I think NYC people are like that because it is such a rat race up there. You have to get over or someone is getting over on you seemed to be the attitude. I get it too. 

They expected too much of Darnold too soon here. He needed recovery time and I agree that Jones does too. 

If this actually happened it would be for the offseason and beyond. I guess. It just seems like not the best timing though, to be doing redecorating there. 

Someone is desperate too, or will be, and will probably give him a look before we would.

I’ve seen Jones make throws Bryce could never dream of making. On the flip side I’ve seen Jones also make mistakes Bryce has never made. I think Jones might be available for a few weeks waiting for the right opportunity, but being the backup to Bryce with a shot to win the job next season is probably his best chance at another starting job, and in his home town. It’s a low risk move honestly, and he could replace Dalton as he backup. Shouldn’t stop the Panthers from drafting someone in the offseason though, even if they signed him.

The book isn’t finished on Daniel Jones by any means but I don’t think we see him become the player even Sam Darnold has become. He could be a good backup in the right situation. The Rams seem like a good option to let him sit and learn with McVay.

I dont mind the mistakes early on in your career as you are just figuring out what works and what doesnt but the poo he was still doing even in our game last week is inexcusable.  The dude wilts under pressure and just keeps making bone headed mistakes.

Don’t forget McVay dumped Goff….and he is a much better QB with the Lions than with the Rams. Goff, with one of the best offensive coaches in the league,  was considered a disappointment and was traded away. Jones is still only 27. You never know what a change of scenery could do for him. At least the Panthers would not be trading away draft picks if they decided to pursue.

He will likely remain unsigned the remainder of this season(barring someone being in a pure QB panic AND making poor decisions) largely due to the cost.

I do think he will get multiple offers to be a backup QB and perhaps a couple to potentially start this offseason. 

I will continue to beat the same horse over and over.....he should go to a successful team with an established starter. If I were him, go to somewhere like SF, LAR, etc. Somewhere with a successful QB coach and brilliant offensive mind and ALSO a set situation at QB. Ride the pine and adjust for a year or two. Chill and be around better culture.

I would suggest the same for Bryce but he will be limited to wherever we can trade him.

This is factually incorrect. He was a two time Pro Bowler with the Rams and in fact statistically he was better with the Rams in his best season there than he has been with the Lions(could change with this season). Some of his per game stats have creeped into being marginally better with the Lions but there have not been dramatic differences in his play, actually.

The biggest reason that McVay and he ended up splitting was McVay didn't think he could win a title with Goff. TBH.....so far he was 100% correct. Stafford almost immediately won them a SB and Goff in a historic run was about 70% of the reason the Lions faltered in the NFC championship game. He missed critical throws all over the first half and throughout the second half that he normally wouldn't. He choked.

So, until Goff actually does win a SB...McVay has been right.

McVay knew he had to have a better qb to win the super bowl.  Goff at the time simply didnt have the arsenal in his game to elevate a team and put it on his back to win games.  Much like Smith in SF and KC, he was a good qb but the coaches realized he was never going to be good enough.  His passing ability was limited much like goff.  (Insert Canales logic with Bryce)  Then you can do Jimmy G.  When you know you just know.  Its a qb driven league and you need a dynamic talent to win in the playoffs.

And it remains to be seen if Goff has that ability or not. Plenty of very good QB's like Goff were not able to get over those playoff humps. Matt Ryan, Kirk Cousins, etc. You can still be an upper tier QB and never get over that hurdle. McVay just thought(and hasn't been wrong yet) Goff was never going to be that guy.
