Prime Cam Newton vs Current Josh Allen

I love Cam, he will always be MY Quarterback

But the answer is Allen and at this point, it's frankly almost to the point where it isn't even a close debate.  Cam still edges out Allen's running by a tad, but Allen's passing is already better than Cam's ever was.

The reality is that over the last season or two, Allen is becoming the QB we all expected Cam to be.

And for those using the Super Bowl appearance as why it's still Cam, then you're just fooling yourself because you want the answer to be Cam.  Allen has been to the playoffs 5 times, 3 of them he lost to KC and Mahomes, each of them in seasons KC went to the SB themselves.  If Mahomes wasn't Mahomes, Allen would have already been to a SB by now.

Trying to knock Allen for that would be like saying Peyton wasn't as great as he was because of how many times he couldn't get past Brady in the playoffs.

We all love Cam, but there isn't anything wrong with just being honest when comparing two great QB's who will both end up in Canton.

Cam Newton is the best! Cam is greatly underrated. They copied of my guy, Cam & give him no credit. Cam is 1 of 1. Josh Allen is not greater!

Cam got sh**ted on by two teams, so wrong. There is no reason why Cam should have been  shut down from playing the last 3 years. It’s bias.  Aaron  Rodgers, Kirk Cousins, still play, are older, & are not winning much. Sam Darnold, Andy Dalton, Baker Mayfield, Mac Jones, Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, etc., all got second & 3rd chances.

Josh Allen is catching up with Cam only because they shut down my favorite Quarterback, Cam, & stopping him from playing. I still hurt! 😢

Cam Newton has a Heisman Trophy winner from his C1N Youth Football Team. His name is Travis Hunter, Jr. Cam has many top players in College & the NFL. His Youth Program, is the best in this country &  they were National Champions in 2021.  Travis Hunter was in that game.
Cam Newton does not get the National credits he deserves..

Patriots new Quarterback from

Tar Hills, NC, Drake Maye, recognized Cam as his MVP.  He said he mimicked playing like Cam as a young kid in his backyard..

The top writers in NE Patriots’s, area, wouldn’t credit Cam for it.  Cam had gotten snubbed too much.  I love Cam. He helped me learn about football! 👍💕🙏

Cam should have a statue outside BOA. Single handily made the Panthers relevant in the Nat'l media.

I get that Allen is amazing, but I'm gonna buck some of the glazing here.  IF we are talking PURELY PRIME...Cam.  Cam Newton in 2015 was a generationally transformational player.  Cams prime was ruined by injury in 2016, and he was never the same, but lets say the injury doesnt happen, his Prime continues.  Cam could make every single throw, he could run over people, he did things that Allen physically cant do and frankly as the tank he was no one ever has.

Simply put, you cant tell me that if tomorrow Allen takes a shot to his throwing shoulder that destroys his ability to push the ball deep (which is a lot of what makes allen special and what made Cam special...god his backfoot 60 yard on a rope to ted ginn against the raiders in 2016 pre injury is still one of the most insane throws I've ever seen) that everyone here would still say Allen over Cam.  We have to contextualize based on how long the "prime" window was, Cams window got slammed shut unfortunately and its a true shame.

There is no Allen without Cam. Funny they calling Allen Superman, guess who was the first QB called Superman?

Cam did it with much less. Look at all these QBs who wear #1. Can made that famous as well. Put some respect on Big Cam!

Nobody is disrespecting Cam by saying it's Allen.  Just as nobody is saying Cam didn't change the QB position to allow guys like Allen to be given a chance and then flourish.

But I don't know how anyone can look at the stats between them and objectively say that Allen hasn't surpassed Cam in terms of being a better QB, even if he still needs a few more seasons to pass Cam's totals.

Cam played 48 more games than Allen, which is almost 3 full seasons, but Allen is only 6,000 yards passing behind Cam, only 1,500 yards rushing behind Cam, and already only 11 rushing TDs behind him as well.

Allen already has 2 more passing TDs than Cam and has 40 less INTs than Cam had (.77 per game to .83 per game in Allen's favor).

Allen started his career out with a 53% and 59% completion percentages his first two seasons and hasn't been below 63.3% in the 5 years since then.  Cam only has 4 seasons in his career above 60% and only 1 of those was above that 63.3% that Allen has been above for the last 5 years.

(not to mention, that one season Cam had above Allen's number, was his one full season with CMC as the main RB, when he had literally 1/3rd of Cam's completed passes, mostly on screens of course which naturally would have boosted Cam's completion percentages)

Yes, the Bills have done a better job at putting quality pieces around Allen than we did, but that still doesn't change that Allen has surpassed Cam as a QB at this point.

And that's not a knock on Cam, he's still going to be in the HOF, he's still going to be my QB for ever.

It's just appreciating what Allen has become and looking at it objectively.

    • Why do you say that. What leads you to think that we, as supporters, think his ceiling is 10-12. That's a ridiculous assumption on your part. The Seahawks won the SB with Darnold passing for 25 TD's, 14 Ints with a 99.1 rating for the season.  The Panthers with Young were at 23 TD's, 11 Ints and a 78.8 rating for the season. Not that far off. The problem with all the Young discourse around here is the assumption that the QB is the sole determining factor for a teams success. That just isn't true and it's certainly not how Morgan and Tilis are building the Panthers.
    • Do we pay based on how many wins or how many games Bryce led us to wins? We've spent quite a bit on defense this year and hopefully they're much improved. If the Panthers do get to 10 wins, but Bryce has another year like last year where he showed up big in a couple, was present in a few, and forgettable in most, do we still pay him 50m per year?  I keep bringing it up because I think it's relevant, but Bryce was outplayed by a 6m per year backup last year. I don't see how it's possible to pay a top tier QB contract to someone who's putting up backup QB production.
    • I understand tempering expectations, but there are some issues with his points. Walker was a 3 year starter, but Green Bay let him walk and no other team was quick to snatch him up. That says something. Freeling will compete to start. With Hunter, we rotate our linemen and even 5th round pick Cam Jackson played some meaningful snaps last year. Both Brown III and Wharton have underwhelmed since we picked them up. Hunter is a run plugger that we have needed. Hunter will play early, even if he isn't the "starter." Brazzell was described as one of Canales' favorite prospects in the draft and he has a speed element we have been missing. I think Canales is going to have plays drawn up with Brazzell on the field just out of pure excitement. It will be up to Brazzell to prove he can handle it, though. If he can, he will play. As far as our secondary picks, yeah they have to earn their stripes and Evero tends to lean on veterans. So they might take time, but if they can show they can play, they will see the field. Smith-Wade and Ransom did. Sam Hecht simply has to show he can handle the mental side of the NFL game. If he can, he is in a direct competition with Fortner, who's also relatively young, but also on his 3rd NFL team and doesn't have the power profile of Hecht.  I can appreciate that Gantt wants to pour cold water on what was perceived as an impactful draft, but facts are facts.
