Actually, Bridgewater did have a 5 TD game like this in his 2nd season as he led the Vikings to the playoffs.

Then he had a season ending injury before his 3rd season began. That was the end of his career as a starter. Bryce Young is still behind what Bridgewater did in his first 2 seasons.

This season, Bryce Young has 15 passing TDs and 6 rushing TDs in 12 starts. That's more than Teddy Bridgewater ever had in a season.

Nah, Bridgewater had games like this with New Orleans. Atlanta put up no real resistance. Bryce and the offense did exactly what good offenses do in that situation and scored nearly at will, but Atlanta's defense was every bit as atrocious as Carolina's today.

Again though, I said that if he continues then I'll be wrong and we all win. It appears a much stronger possibility then it did this time last year. At this point only time will tell.

How many times did Bridgewater do it in this 2nd year?

How many times has a quarterback done it in their second season?

Alex Smith had an aberrant season with 26 passing TDs the year they drafted Mahomes as well, a.k.a. clear competition. That is an example of why I think Carolina would be remiss to take all competition off the table at this point. Need to keep things rolling strong into next season.

What is your point? Consistency makes the best the best - Matt Flynn had a great couple of games once too.

Keep Bryce competing and when he continues to show this type of command for more than a game and into the first half of next year, that will be a stronger indicator. Until then, jury is still out. That's all I'm saying.

I have zero problem with upgrading the backup QBs and pushing the QB room in camp to compete, but Alex Smith was a veteran and we all knew who he was by the time they drafted Mahomes. I don't think any of us can really be certain what Young is.

Completely fair, but we know what it took to drag Bryce out of the gutter. Plus, your last sentence goes both ways - is this stretch a mirage or were the first 17 starts? Only time will tell.

That's exactly how I feel.  I'm not sold on Bryce entirely, but I think he's shown he at least is good enough to start in this league.  That could of course change next year, lol, but I hope not!

Has Matt Flynn played this well for multiple games?

How good was Drew Brees, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Matt Stafford during their second season? Truth is Bryce played better than them. Very rarely does a 2nd year qb put up top 5-10 stats. Let us be happy we have hope for the future.

    • Only thing I really see it doing is possibly making Tepper listen if a different play caller can't run the offense because of limitations. New hire, someone who hasn't been watching Bryce for the past 3 years up close may be able to talk some sense if he sees that he isn't able to get the job done.

    • Not sure there is anything that will do that outside of Young actually being a legit top 12 QB. Where he won’t need excuses made for him.  It is just as likely to multiply them.
