Was Frank Reich the problem?

Fitterer was the main problem. Reich's heart just wasn't in it anymore.

I don't think Tepper ever like Frank. Even during his first press conference, Tepper pronounced his name wrong and was uninterested. The media reported that it was a committee made up of himself, Scott, and other that hired Frank.

I personally think Scott just did not want Wilks for whatever reason.

With Canales it was just Tepper, Morgan, and the outside firm that the 49ers and Eagles used which is promising.

Seemed that way to me too. Felt like he was in a different camp and didn't get his way so he just said fug it.

Wouldn't you too though? If CJ was his choice, and judging just by the type of QB Frank tended to coach, he was, Tepper coming in and making that choice for him just cut his legs out. Would you want to work somewhere that you were required to be the leader but weren't allowed to lead?

I believe the reports that he wanted Derek Carr and BPA in the draft.

Hard to know what happened behind the scenes. Did he take the job thinking he was going to have more control over the QB decision? Was it due to a miscommunication or was it due to him overestimating how influential he'd be? No idea.

Either way, no I wouldn't just mail it in because I didn't get my way unless I was flat out told it was going to be my pick the. They jerked the rug out from under me. Otherwise I'd try to make the best of it.

He wasn't even happy the night they interviewed him at his house like right after it was announced lol.

You ask if Frank was the problem as if we were good this year. We went 5 and 12.

Our receiving core consisted of Mingo, Chark, and Terrace Marshall last year and we had one of the worst offensive lines in football.

Adding Coker, Legette and Sanders and the additions to our OLine. I’m sure Reich could win a couple more games as well.

How would Frank do with the defense that allowed the most points in NFL history?

Fitterer did not want Wilkes because he would have exposed Scott for the fraud he is.

Scott Fitterer may be the worst GM in the history of the NFL.

    • Sound write-up MHS, as always.  Agree that the smart move that forward thinking franchises make would be drafting a tackle early, if not for sure in R1, depending on who's there. Based on early predictions we're choosing between Fano and Proctor. No brainer here...Fano all day. Proctor does not move the needle for me. In my mind, Icky has less future here than Brooks does. I love Icky, but he has been average as a top-10 pick, one good year where you saw the potential...and that was this year. He's built like a RT and his strengths are there, but he's always played left. I also feel like part of what has held him back from being elite, was his work ethic. He was known for it coming out, but feel like he fell right at home in Carolina and maybe didn't push himself as hard as he needed to. Throw in a major crucial injury that will take time to recover and a historical low return rate to current form, and the outlook is not great. Fano can play both sides and we need to also plan for Moton's departure. Either way, delaying drafting a tackle early this year will hurt us down the line. Our current OL is overpriced and needs to start adding draftees to start balancing out the inevitable changes coming in the next 2-3 years.  As others have said, maybe Icky can replace Hunt or Lewis in a couple years when he's fully recovered....IDK. Also not a guarantee, but then you have to figure out his contract and it becomes even more clouded.
    • It's past time to just eliminate it in terms of an event. Just do the voting, name the roster, and move on. When you get down to 6th and 7th alternates it's just absurd. It doesn't mean anything.
