I hear the personel excuses - the problem is he had Burns, Luvu, Chin and Brown last year and he didnt show much then either: 23rd against the rush with Brown, Burns and Luvu at the line AND they gave up 29 rushing TDs - the most in the NFL. They also were either last or near to last with pressure and sacks. I'm not sure its so much personel as it is scheme.

And this was with Derrick Brown having an all-time great season at DT also.

Maybe this scheme was done right in Denver, but it hasn't been done right here at all in 2 years, with or without personnel.

I'm willing to cut Canales some slack bc he was right in benching Bryce and has helped him develop into what looks like a guy who can be here long-term, and Dan Morgan has vouched for him too, but it's so hard to think about bringing him back after the all-time disaster this year was. Continuity be damned.

Hope they are right though. This could be a playoff team with the 2nd Half of the year offense and an even average defense.

Last year, our defense was on the field about 2/3 of the game because of how inept our offense was. Not to mention that opposing teams were often starting on our half of the field. I think they did pretty well overall considering the hand they were dealt.

And not sure that list of players is anything great (besides DB), although they are definitely much better than the turds we got to replace them. Burns clearly quit on the team last year and was just going through the motions, Luvu was great as a pass rusher, but pretty bad as a run stopper and in coverage, and Chinn just doesn't have a spot in the NFL to be good at unless he bulks up big time (too terrible in coverage to play safety/nickel, too small to play LB).

And honestly, I think our sack numbers were low last year because teams just didn't need to throw the ball because they knew we couldn't score. That's why we were ranked near the top in passing yards allowed when we weren't really good in coverage.

Except for he started 17 games for the Commanders this year and had a career year.

Wash fans feel about present day Chinn the way we felt about rookie version Chinn.  Love him.

for all those who want to pretend we are suddenly well run because of about 5 games of the Tepper era.....keeping Evero proves it's still a mess at the top

And he's the last vestige of the Reich Era that I want to fully move past.

Canales has come up roses with Bryce balling the 2nd half of this year, but him and Dan Morgan are both signing their names in endorsement of Evero... hope it works out.

Will Evero be the first coach under Tepper to see the length of his contract?  It expires after this next season right?

I think you're right... wouldn't it be something if the DC with the statistical worst defense of all time is the 1st coach not to be fired by Mr. "Not Settling for Mediocrity" Tepper

I still think it is a David Tepper world.  I don't think Canales ever picked him to begin with.

He still graded out average on PFF, so nothing spectacular. Honestly haven't seen him play this year, but maybe he put on enough muscle with Washington to play the in the box safety/weak side lb

A strong line can hide bad linebackers. A strong LB core can hide a bad line. I say we address our LB situation first. Sick and tired of seeing every fuging one all season catching and not getting their ass downhill. You don't run parallel to the line and wait for the ball carrier to come at you.

    • Same, I expect this game to be the one where fans really riot Knowing us...  -Jalon Walker/JPJr. get at least 3 sacks -Jessie Bates gets an INT -Michael Penix throws at least 3 TD passes -XL drops at least 2 passes
    • I realize we were down 24 points when the Carolina Panthers touched the ball  for the first and only time  in the 3rd quarter...and they went on a 14 play checkdown drive taking the exact plays the Cards wanted them too and gave them overall.  and now you got folks cherry picking random plays asking how could it be garbage time if the Cards weren't in prevent on a 3rd down short yardage play or on the goal.  all you got do to is just watch the game live on repeat and not listen to the announcers.
    • Just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I think Bryce decides who he's throwing to before the snap too often instead of reading what he sees post snap. Now alot of that is trying to influence the safety, but if the safety doesn't bite, he gets stuck and it turns into Bryce trying to make a play off schedule as the other options are gone. Cam did the same thing when Kelvin and Smitty were in the game. Bryce sees the field. He just gets a little stubborn sometimes. And that's when he gets himself into trouble. That and he doesn't trust guys to make plays on 3rd down. Instead of throwing to the open guy and letting them get the remaining 3-5 yards for the first, he'll wait until he can throw a guy to the markers. I don't think those physical limitations that keep being brought up is that real for him. Well... until he gets tackled and fumbles the ball at an alarming rate. But he has a strong enough arm, sees the field, and doesn't get injured by regular hits.
