A List of Immature QBs

Recommended Posts

1. Phillip Rivers

2. Jay Cutler

3. Tony Romo - The whole Simpson debacle and taking off to go vacation before the playoffs.

4. Eli Manning - Definitely wasn't thought of as a leader for the first probably 3-4 years of his career in New York.

5. Ben Roethlisberger - Don't get me wrong, I don't want Clausen to go out clubbing with underage girls but the Big Ben has 2 rings...

6. Vince Young - Not my favorite QB in the world but has been pretty successful.

These are just QBs that have been viewed as immature during their careers recently. Eli Manning demanded a freaking trade out of San Diego for heaven's sake and now he has a ring.

Not everyone is going to go about their business like Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. I hope that is how Clausen decides to go about his business and from hearing him talk about getting into the film room early, I think he has the potential to be that kind of a QB. But I'm just not buying the whole "he's going to be a bust because he's immature" garbage. He might have been the most heavily scrutinized college QB of the last 3 years and the most trouble he ever got into was participating in the "beer olympics" at a frat house. Not too bad if you ask me...

philip rivers is on another level of a-hole. great player grade A+ a-hole, and i wouldn't compare him to Clausen (not saying you are, just trashing Rivers for a second)

Agreed. Emotional? Yes. Opinionated? Yes. AHole? Yes. Annoying? Yes. Immature? I don't know?

I think he wants to win and believes if everyone was on the same page his team will win. Hence, the success of SD over the past few years. Rivers is not the reason SD has not been to the SB.

Immature to me is the kid that knows he is going to the NFL combine and millions of dollars are on the line and he smokes a joint anyways.

Immature is the 28 multi-millionare that goes to college towns and tries to pick up college chicks.

Immature is not the kid that thinks he has the most ability out of a group of 10. Immature is not saying a WR ran the wrong route.

Clausen is not immature at all in my book. He may be an asshole but so am I. I would rather stand in the huddle with the guy that says "I'm the best there is, believe in me and we can win", than with the guy that says "Everybody keep playing hard we have a shot.".

All this talk about Clausen not being a leader or not being mature, go and watch some of the 4th quarters of his ND games. Tell me that kid didn't try his damndest to pick that team up and win with it. Tell me if he ever gave up even when his D gave up late game TD's. Let me know if there was ever a time when the clock didn't say 00:00 that he wasn't still playing his heart out.

Before I start ranting, I do believe you do need good intangibles to be a superbowl winning QB. I really don't care that much about a guy who can get good regular season numbers if his team flakes out of the playoffs. The NFL isn't a competition to see who can get the best stats, it's a competition to see who can win the superbowl. As far as I'm concerned, you need both the production and the intangibles for me to want me on the team.

With that in mind, Clausen could end up being a Jay Cutler look-alike and I still wouldn't be happy. Cutler's a me-first type of guy. I've seen him throw picks and not even bothering to go tackle the ball carrier. You would think a leader would at least minimize the impact of their mistakes. I can't see this guy ever winning a superbowl.

Philip Rivers on the other hand is also a major douche but he's a guy who I can see winning a big game. Rivers is an us first kind of guy which is very different to what Cutler is. You see him taunting opposing players, trash talking... all sort of douchey things but at least he's a guy his team-mates can trust at least in terms of football. I think Ben falls into the same camp.

If these leadership problems are real (which I actually doubt), I'll be fine if he's a Rivers type of guy and not a Cutler type of guy. There is a big difference imo and I think it's a mistake to lump them into the same category.

Big Ben, Vince Young, Russell, Romo....immature.

Cutler...not a team player.

River and Manning 2 are totally different players, but I wouldn't call either of them an a-hole, and certainly not immature. Both are married, do not show up in the local drunk tanks, have led their teams to huge success, and are loved by their fan bases.

Manning is not fired up enough for most.....Rivers is too fired up for most, but to call either immature or a-holes is really far off base.

You're allowed to be an asshole if you can play like Rivers. Probably my 2nd favorite QB in the league next to Aaron Rodgers.

I'd rather have a firey, competitive QB like Clausen than some shy "aw geez fellas, that was my fault!" like Bradford. Don't get me wrong I'm not doubting Bradford's skills, but I just don't like a guy with that attitude being the leader of your offense.

    • You bring up a good point on the stability part and i would agree that probably will factor into it. But yes, Tepper does have a strong influence on who stays/goes but I still believe ultimately it'is Morgan, Tilis and Canales who will decide.
    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
