Prediction: Jimmy Clawesome starts week 1

Just wanted to get that out there. His work in preseason will earn him the job. A lot of people are taking the politically correct approach and just handing Moore the job before we've even been to training camp or played a single preseason game. The organization's approach at this point is to not undercut Moore right off the bat but mark my words... their opinions will change once we've seen JC in preseason taking the majority of the meaningful snaps as the #2 QB.

I have no doubt he'll earn the starting job by week 1.

:drool5:

ok, so i was off by two weeks. that prediction was made in april!

No NFL coach starts a rookie, when he already has an experienced option that wins games and the team . Rookies start when there is no other option. Flacco, Ryan, Sanchez....they started b/c there was no Matt Moore.

I agree with Fox. Only stat I care about is the W/L stat. Moore wins. Clausen has talent. That is all we know at this point and I think the team would respond best in 2010 to Moore.

I would be surprised if Fox started JC in week 1. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but, generally, Fox has moved very cautiously with rookies.

Since Moore is more than capable at the position, why would Fox risk setting up a rookie for possible failure so soon?

Given what the team has said and Fox's history with starting rookies I find it doubtful that he would start.

However, I am excited about seeing JC in some pre-season games. Woot! Woot!

He shouldn't start the season, but he certainly could.

Clausen has far superior skills to Moore, but not the timing, playbook knowledge, and trust of the coaches.

If we are in a position to make a run at the playoffs, you keep JC on the bench all year, and if not, put his ass in there about week 9 or 10.

Doubt it, don't think there will be an open QB competition - it's Matt's job to lose right now. The only way I can see Clausen starting this year is if Matt gets hurt or really struggles and I think they will give Matt every opportunity to right the ship before giving him the hook.

We've all learned that when the Panthers crown you the starting QB, it takes ALLOT for them to pull the plug (which overall I think is a good tendency).

Wait a minute...I thought coach Fox didn't trust young and unproven players?

This place is crazy. In one thread, people complain that our DT's are young and inexperienced, and that Fox and Hurney are idiots for not signing a big time FA or drafting one in the early rounds, yet some of those same people claim that Clausen will start right away even though Fox actually has some history with Matt Moore and he's more experienced.

I love the Huddle.

    • Push em to the brink!!! Shut em down Freddie!
    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
    • Aho and Jarvis just gripping it too tight right now. Relax, play their 200 ft game and the shots will start to find the net. Freddie has been excellent and welcome back Mista Svechnikov. Burns.....well, thank goodness for Slavin.
