Right now, which concerns you more...

I was talking to some guys yesterday and it's always interesting to hear the panthers perspective from other football fans. I live in fayetteville, but I work on pope afb so Im friends with guys from all over the us. They see the panthers but they aren't fans. So I was talking with a few of them and all if them are avid football fans and they seemed to think that clausen would be a great QB but that matt Moore really impressed them last year when he started those last 5 games. They think he will be a good battle between clausen and Moore and that the team will only benefit from the competition.

Now here is the reason for the thread...one thing they brought up was that they thought our offense would be good, even great but that they thought the defense was the biggest question mark. So here is my question to everyone, which side of the ball concerns you more right now?

It's a tough call considering the youth we have a the qb position and how the wide rceivers will shake out. If lafell can't be moose 2.0 or Jarrett can't continue improving then we could be in a lot of trouble. Obviously the running game will be good as usual and I think that's the thing we will hang our hats on this year.

With the defense there is tons of potential but not a lot of experience...there is also a lot of turnover with new starters at 5 positions (DE, DT, DT, OLB, S). There is a lot of youth, a lot of speed, and a lot of depth. Problem is how wi these guys come together and will it be in time to make an impact this season. The defense could be mediocre or phenominal depending on numerous factors.

Somehow knowing all that I just don't worry as much about the defense bc fox always seems to put something good on the field. I'm more concerned about the offense and mainly that revolves around the passing game and the QB situation. We need more playmakers in the passing game and it will be interesting to see if Edwards, lafell, gettis, or any of the tightends can be that threat consistently.

Run D. We lost Harris, Diggs, HT, and Kemo I don't see us being to effective against the Run at least until the D starts to gel. Also a big ? mark on the Pass Rush as well. Coverage is the one area I am not concerned with on D. I think our O will be fine.

I think that the D will be most people's concern, just because of the turnover and the fact that we don't have Peppers anymore. There is a lot of potential on that side though, so I'm excited to see what happens with it.

i feel good about the offense. we have much better choices @ QB than we have had in a long time. we have some nice prospects at WR that have a ton of potential (though that may take a little while to realize).

the defense should be much faster than laster year which will fit meeks scheme more.

from the sounds of it, it may be a bit disorganized but that will change. we have coaches that are known for being teachers and we are one year into the new scheme. it might take a little time to get it going full speed once the season starts but it shouldn't take as long as last year.

there is a ton of potential here and i'm pretty excited about what they can do. i think they will be better than a lot of people do.

i was more concerned about run defense, but honestly after the draft i'm more concerned about punt returns. just one muffed punt can lose a game. edwards has never returned punts in a live game. he's gonna have guys flying down the field at him full speed and stand right in front of his face while he's trying to fair catch a punt. i hope he has great concentration is all i can say. as a quarterback his instinct was probably to avoid contact. although, with him being a scrambling qb that may not be accurate. either way, he can't have that instinct.

I will go back and look at the rushing trends of the teams on the schedule outside of the NFC South of course.

I think the Panthers are going cheap for obvious reasons but also a slight gamble on the passing game being more of a focus than the run for most teams.

From the Super Bowl last year you saw what I think is a mini trend of using the pass as a version of smash mouth running from the early 90's to limit the other teams possession of the football.

West Coast offense with out the slant for long yards.

No worries for me on the offensive side. But that D line is my biggest concern but all you need is some pressure for this scheme so it might go well.

I have no real concerns. If I had to pick something I would say either the safeties gelling or the pass rush without Peppers. I think our Run D will be what it usually is. 5 yards, 2 yards, 0 yards.

I fear that when the big names come up for contract extensions (DeAngelo, Kalil, etc.), we will see them walk far more than in previous years.

If this is really more a "we must keep costs in line with revenues no matter what" NFL business rather than a "we want to win no matter what the cost" NFL business, the Panthers may be doomed to mediocrity in perpetuity.

Outsiders put a lot more emphasis on Pep; more then we do/did. Yeah there were fanboys but after a while people started to question. Not saying that there aren't concerns because we chopped some good guys but Pep wasn't THE defense and I think that's how a lot of people perceived our D. Meeks has already shown that he's got the defense's attention but the real question is, how quickly will the NEW guys fall in line with the Meeks D?

I'd like to see us bring in another big DT, maybe bring Hollis back. I faith in Leonard but we can't have him getting hurt again. I also have concerns about TD but we have plenty of depth at LB. I think we'll be fine if not great at DE, Norwood and Hardy relieve some of my concern's there.
