So the Dallas Mavericks have completely lost their minds

The best conspiracy theory I've seen about this is that ownership is sabotaging the team to move them to Las Vegas.  After Cuban sold his stake, the primary owners are casino people.  Sports betting is not legal in Texas.

Moving the team is probably a lot cheaper than paying off Texas politicians to legalize gambling too.

I think Dallas did well here and they clearly didn’t want to pay Luka 300 m to get hurt all the time.  Plus AD is still one to the best bigs in the association

But he’s hurt all the time too and about to turn 32.

Mav’s GM is trying to win MULTIPLE championships in the next 1-4 years.  He’s not thinking 10 years out.

Their roster is pretty nice with:

1.) Kyrie Irving

2.) Klay Thompson

3.) PJ Washington

4.) Anthony Davis

5.) Dereck Lively / Daniel Gafford

And like you said, they were gonna have to make Luka the highest paid player in the league this off-season at $340mil+.  He ain’t all that.  AD is prime to win a chip NOW.

Klay is super washed and Kyrie is past his prime as well.  It's possible this team gets hot and wins it, but I don't see it.  In the video I linked, the guy says he thinks the trade is dumb if they don't win an NBA championship this year.  The reason being that the market for Luka would have been a lot more lucrative in the summer and with all the interested teams competing.  I think its tough to disagree with that.

They've been trying that route and it hasn't worked they want to build a new arena inside a casino in Dallas.  I believe that they're trying to tank the team to facilitate a move.  I wonder if Cuban has regrets. He loved the team and probably is pissed

Tanking interest in the team and moving it is a tired and true way of getting out of a city, so yeah, I can see them doing that.

    • I think what's been useful about PFF rankings on a weekly basis is to see how certain members of the defensive backfield perform according to them. I find it hard to judge Nick Scott and some of the others the last few weeks, though he's had some plays, so these scores are helpful there. Though when Derrick Brown doesn't show up at all it's a head scratcher.  I know week to week is irrelevant but he had a monster game by most accounts.
    • Agreed the odds are stacked against us and I doubt we win it but you never know. I just know it's nice to be able to even have this conversation again.
