his stats:

Shockey had a combined 248 catches, 3000 yards and 17 tds his first 4 years.

He never had a 100 yeard season and never had double digit tds

Rookie year stats:  If thats all pro then sure

GP GS       Rec        Yds        Avg       Lng           TD
5      14      74        894        12.1        30

        2

If you think that is first round worthy then we have to agree to disagree

To be fair, that's double the yards legette had.

What games did you feel stuck out poorly on film? He looked like a man amongst boys vs. USC and Purdue and was clearly the best player on the Penn State offense in the postseason.

Yes his size is impressive and he looks solid which is good. He doesn't look like a freak and the NFL has tons of freaks.

I don't care about the games. I just look at the film. Being the best player at Penn state means nothing in the NFL, it's just supporting info in the draft process. If he isn't going to be playing for for CFB coaches and agaisnt CFB players it's a moot point. He is big and he should be good in the NFL but comparing him to Bowers or saying he is a better prospect is not something I can agree with from what I have seen.

thats not true,  you have to play the odds and the odds say te's are bottom of the barrel in busting relative to where they were picked

We just did this, in 24 years 24 have been picked in the first round, in your opinion who was worthy?

You know, I'm torn on how to do this post, so I'll go with both options. Up first:

We've done it!

Are you coping well enough?

Now on to the rest of the post.

We've successfully moved at least some of mrcompletely11's disdain and hatred from I Love You Football GIF by Carolina Panthers

to the idea of Warren at #8. Take a bow fellas

“never had 1k yard season”

Go look at the receiving stats from the TEs around that time period.

Antonio Gates who is about to go in the HOF only had 2 1k seasons out of 15 seasons.

they weren’t airing it out like today.  If he played in todays game where guys are attempting 40 passing  vs 25 back then when they were more focused on RBs and the run game.

There is a reason he was 1st team all-pro

You've fallen into the trap. You're looking for an athlete and not a football player.😮

Warren has improved every year in college and can play the game and produce at a high level. That's all you can really ask for from a prospect.

passing attempts 2002 = 33

passing attempts 2024 = 32

“He didn’t have a 1k yard Season”

Up coming HOF TE Antonio Gates had 2 1 Thousand yard seasons out of 15.

TE’s weren’t utilized like today as much in the passing game despite their ability

dont move the goalposts, first you say the attempts per game were 40 vs 25 (wrong) now you want to focus on the tight ends.

I mean you guys can simply ignore the stats/data all you want but its patently clear taking a te in the first is a fools errand and taking one in the top 10 is sheer insanity which should lead to immediate termination

If you think he is a unicorn cool let some other team gamble with a less then 10% hit rate

Little confused here. I get that you recognize his size, but I don't understand the comment about not caring about the games and only the film. The games ARE the film. Are you going based off of his highlights? Completely fair as we are just armchair GMs that might only have time for a 5min reel while using the bathroom.

No Bowers looks like the better athlete and player. It's not just physical, even if i did compare those aspects. I called Bowers a freak. He is a playmaker. Warren reminds me of Legette where people were gushing over him and brushing the body catches and lack of agility as issues when transitioning to the NFL. I think you have fallen into the trap that school ball is close to NFL ball where they might as well be different games.

No the games are the coaches, players and situation. The film is looking at the prospect and then seeing g if those things add value to an assessment. I don't even look at their records because it usually doesn't matter. The games are more than film, they are a bunch of stuff going on and lots of it doesn't matter anymore once they are drafted.

I simply answered you initial statement that he didn’t do anything his first 4 years.

when he made 1st team all pro in his first year (which all-pro isn’t some fan vote Gimik) Over guys like Gates etc.

So yes

He did do something his first 4 seasons.

if you can get a 1st team all-pro rookie year with your top 10 pick.  I’d say it was worth it.

    • We have taken two TEs in three seasons I think, and Sanders may not pan out or it may have been a sophomore slump, but we took a guy last year that was coming on.  I am not in favor of TE in round one and really don’t consider it a high priority in any round.
    • Trevon Moehrig, Turk Wharton, Bobby Brown, Jaelen Phillips, Devin Lloyd, Nic Scourton Giving him 6 starters in 2 offseasons that cost boat loads of money or a 2nd round pick... Not exactly handing the man scraps. The point of the draft is to make the team better. You want to make this about Bryce. It isn't. It's about improving the team. And if anyone can look at our offense and go "we're good", they are lying to themselves. You give quarterbacks weapons. We SCREAMED for YEARS to give Cam some help. But now because we are trying to do it for Bryce, you all are saying we are coddling him because of his "deficiencies". It's a double-standard because you don't like the guy, clearly. But even if he does fail, guess what? The next guy has help too. Win-win.
    • we have 2 solid/above average (however you want to phrase that) wr's, which is more than half the league at least.  We dont need to be blowing more first round capital just to placate Bryce and his limitations.   We have one absolute stud (probably top 10 wr) in tmac and we have a high floor guy with insane potential if he can stay healthy.  Yeah man we are in better shape than the bulk of the teams in the league.  If you need to add some speed or whatever, sure draft in the mid rounds or wait until tc cuts.  Its monumentally stupid to spend 3 straight firsts on a wr if thats the route they go.  ITs just more and more excuses for Bryce, thats where we are at now.    "How can bryce succeed without a big possession type wr (drafts 2 for him), how is bryce supposed to exceed without a speed guy......."   Its fuging never ending.  Give EE some goddamn help on defense for once
