Should Double Trouble even play during pre-season???

I was thinking about how LT never played in the pre-season the other day. What do you guys think of holding Double Trouble back a little bit?

I mean, the O-line and Runningback position are the only sqauds that haven't seen some big changes. Seems like we should probably protect the life of the team.

The only reason I could see them needed to play is for new protection schemes but that's it. It's not like they aren't familiar with the playbook.

We also have two runningbacks that we actually need a good look at with Mike Goodson and Tyrell Sutton. See if Goodsoon has progressed and if Sutton could be a legitimate piece of the offense. Seeing them with the 1s would really help.

Fox has never shown the attitude of taking it easy as far as game situations go. We always play our starters and we haven't really sat many guys out before. It's kind of frustrating that he goes hard during games but then gives so many breaks during TC and Bye weeks.

Anyways, I'm all for giving Williams and Stewart limited carries. I think it's a safe and pretty smart move. Runningbacks don't get rusty easily.

It'll be the usual..(generalized for starters)

Game 1: Entire First quarter, or 2-3 drives, whichever comes first.

Game 2: 1 drive into Second Quarter

Game 3: About Midway into 3rd quarter

Game 4: Only the starters that still need work or for competition purposes.

DWill will probably play in game 1 and game 3.(He'll have an undisclosed injury for game 2). Stewart will play in game 3 with limited snaps.

Not playing in preseason only increases their chance of injury during the regular season.

I tend to agree with this. They need to get their bodies ready for the pounding they will take once the season starts. They should go out, get there few reps and then turn it into the sutton/goodson show for the rest of the game.

Once you start playing not to get hurt is when it happens.

I actually disagree with this, but to each his own.

As a coach, I would play them, but it isn't about anything else but timing. They are both vets now, and don't really need the practice, IMO. The timing especially in the pass game is what I would want them to get back to feeling.

Yea if they are sharing the load I say they should at least play first Q's. If they are going to get injured it is much better to happen in preseason than the real season. But if one does get injured it really wont hurt the team all that much and it is unlikely they both get injured.

starters rarely play the whole first quarter of game 1. its usually 1-2 drives. if the first drive moves and even scores a field goal, they're done.

they won't play at all in game 4. they won't even dress for it or tavel if it's an away game.

No, not until the third game. With all the other guys we need to see they should just rest until the third game of preseason. I feel like Mike Goodson is on the hot seat and he needs to prove he can play because Tyrell Sutton, Daniel Porter, and Josh Vaughn are breathing down his neck to earn a roster spot. I personally like Tyrell Sutton and Daniel Porter.

If both are healthy in preseason, then play couple of series in game 1, perhaps 4-5 series or most of first half in game two. Play first half and first series in game three. Play none in game four. If either are a little injured in preseason then don't play.
