Rotoworld thinks Thomas Howard would be a good fit

Do you agree? and would you take him

Raiders LB Thomas Howard has been demoted out of the second-team nickel defense in training camp.

Beat writer Jerry McDonald suggests Oakland is hoping for trade offers for Howard, who averaged over 100 tackles per game in 2006-2008, led all linebackers with six interceptions in '07, and is only 27 years old. He'd be a good fit at weak-side 'backer in a defense like Carolina's or Detroit's.

Sure. Lets make sure we sign him up to play Will linebacker. I am sure he will be an upgrade to Beason.

Why does every guy released end up being mentioned as a good fit here. Particularly since we have been so active in the free agent market this year.

Sarcasm off...........................................

Well he is a proven player and pretty good one too. We could move Beason back to his natural position at MLB and we'd have a good backup MLB again in Connor. I wouldn't be opposed to this.

If he is such a good player then how come he can't make the second string on Oakland's squad. Plus his 79 tackles are not that great for a 3-4 linebacker when all of the tackles go to the linebackers. At 27 he doesn't fit our youth movement so the answer is no way would we pick him up if he were cut let alone trade for him.

Hes a good player and Oakland doesn't make the best decisions when it comes to choosing their guys. I would pick him up if the price was right and move Beason back where he belongs. Will Thomas Davis ever play again? Do you want Beason to be a permanent WLB? If not then put him back where he belongs if a good replacement could be had which is what Howard would be. So yeah for the right price I'd be interested to see what he could do here.

we have luck picking up miscast folks from other teams over the year but at this point we won't trade for a guy like him unless we get more injuries. We have guys on the team like Jamar Williams who can play WLB without trading away a draft pick.

As for Beason, lets see how he does this year and what happens to Davis's rehab. We might like Beason at Will, Last year Anderson had 45 tackles in the last 6 games of the year at the position.. Imagine how many Beason could get in a while season. Having Beason at Will and Connor in the middle could be like when we had Witherspoon and Morgan back there.

    • His stats pasted weird, so just know that its 2025 on top, 2024 in the middle and 2023 on bottom. I keep screaming to the heavens to draft production and this guy produces! Almost 1500 scrimmage yards last year, 1100 before that, and 600 as a freshman! My favorite stat? 0 fumbles! Hell, anything in the 5th round and beyond is just best guess anyway, not much to lose and a hellova lot to win. • He has a lot of contacts. It’s going to depend who wants to trade for him for a near nothing pick and I’ll explain why. Trading him keeps him out of the division if he’s released. Here are some people he’s worked with: Sean Payton- Den Brian Callahan-NYG Pete Carmichael-Buffalo Frank Reich-NYJ Josh McCown-Minnesota What we don’t want is him to get released and end up with: Alex Van Pelt- Atlanta (Former QB Coach) Kellen Moore/Doug Nussmeier-NO (Former OC/QB coach) Ken Zampese-TB (Longtime QB coach in Cincinnati) So if we can trade him to somebody outside the division for a 7th rounder that’s a win.
    • Math hasn’t always been my strong suit. But both my boys are good. My 19 year old is in school to be a diesel tech and my 22 year old is in his 3rd year of medical at Montreat college in Black mountain. One more year there to finish undergrad then 4 more years at USF. Yeah, I’ve done pretty well.
