Greg Hardy may have leaped Everette Brown in the lineup

Last year's sack production from the d-line:

Pep 10.5

T Brayton 5

C. Johnson 4

E. Brown 2.5 Total 11.5

And these are really the only d-linemen who contributed sacks...

To equal the production of last year (which ranked 23rd in the league, Minnesota at #1 had 17 more sacks that us) we need at least one of these players to get 10+ sacks. I don't see it happening.

If we can't even equal the production of last year...our defense is going to get eaten up...

Enter Hardy and Norwood...Can these guys combine for 10+ sacks???

I have a hard time seeing that happening.

I'm glad the d-line didn't look like posers against Balt (who does have a decent O-line) and I'm still glad they let Pep go, but I just can't imagine this group of players being dominant.

Brown is the weak link, Johnson is only good for about 5 sacks...Where is the production going to come from???

we can make assumptions all day long... none of that means poo.. in the NFL, every team faces this with "new generation" players..

and with Meeks in at DC for his 2nd year.. maybe, just maybe, there will be some positive instead of all negative.. I think it's possible..

LOL! We gave up a 1st round pick for a guy that is the 4th best DE on the roster. Whats worse is that he is being outplayed by a rookie 6th round draft pick. Brilliant move Marty Hurney!

Hardy was projected 1st round pick coming into last season, some even had him as the number one overall...it is not a reach that he is out playing E. Brown. His issue wasn't talent it was injuries and committment.

I think that in addition to the sacks that the DEs make this year, we shouldn't forget the possibility that we will be able to get production from the DT position as well. When the DEs rush around the corner, the quarterback would always step up in the pocket and have all day throw since we didn't get any push up the middle. With Louis, Tyler, Johnson and Landri we might be avle to get 4-6 of those 10 1/2 sacks from the DTs.

Yeah, I know a crazy concept.

I'm glad you're coming around on these young DT's. I was never worried about "losing" Kemo and Lewis. Don't forget about Corvey Irvin either. He looked pretty darn good the other night and I expect him to get better.

I have no doubt that our pass rush this season will be just as good as last season, and probably better. Brayton is always reliable, and whoever wins out between CJ and EB should be able to do a solid job. It's also looking like we may have something special here in Hardy. The key, however, is that our pass rush will improve in two ways. First, the DT's are going to be significantly better at getting a push this year than last. Leonard is no joke in the middle, and the DT group as a whole looks very promising this year. Second, Meeks is going to blitz. We have some very good blitzing LB's in Beason and Norwood, and Marshall and Godfrey are more than capable of flying in at the QB as well. I'm not worried at all about the pass rush, it's the run defense that still has some questions.

I hope so.Just going off the preseason game..Louis and Ed did not get any push in the middle..but I know it will take time

I still want to be pissed about trading away the 1st for EB. But, it's already been said, if we gt a 1st round talent in the 6th it kind of evens out... Although, I will say it would've been nice to have our 1st this year AND Hardy.

Honestly, I've said before, I believe CJ and Hardy should be the 1st string...

Watching Hardy, the guy has a natural ability to disengage blockers and his moves are natural, EB is a one-trick pony. I'm really hyped to see what he can do...

But what if the guy in the 6th round is a steal and becomes Julius Peppers with heart and a motor? Does that make Marty Hurney stupid? ;)

Hardy was originally a 1st round talent that fell to the 6th round. We gave up a 1st for a 2nd round talent in Brown. So yes, Hurney is still stupid. He just got lucky with Hardy. There was no risk in making that pick. There was a huge risk in trading away a 1st for Brown

I dont see it like that at all.IF Brown is a bust and its way early to tell.IMO it does not "even out" if Hardy is a good player.

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
