Brown not worried about lack of sacks

Training camp’s a time when the shiny and new capture our attention.

Players who are steady, and quiet, and come without hype often fail to register.

But now more than ever, it’s clear how much the Carolina Panthers are going to need Everette Brown this season, and need him in a big way.

The second-year defensive end is almost easy to miss, except for the fact he’s perhaps their most promising pass-rush guy in a year they need all they can get. Despite that, he’s been overlooked through camp, since he opened as a backup (and since Tyler Brayton and Charles Johnson are better against the run), and seemed to be the only lineman who didn’t get a sack in the preseason opener at Baltimore.

Sorry Everette, Hardy has looked much better than you so far. You may be 3rd string.

I want to see Hardy play against some real offensive linemen......with Brayton banged up I'd like to see him and CJ with the first unit. Then we will get a feel for what he can do (well, at least those who haven't been to camp as I assume he has gone against some of our top guys there).

Brown and Hardy rushing from the edges on passing downs sounds like it should be a good combination.

I know a lot of people are down on Brown..no point trying to argue with them.

I'd also like to see Hardy with the starters during pre season. Want to see if can continue to play like he does against better players.

The general consensus going into the season was people were excited and looking forward to seeing Browns progress. After one unproductive preseason game in the rain, now people want him to play LB. I just dont get our "fanbase."

Nonetheless, he is basically our first round pick this year, so he has to produce. I just want to see him progress, which will not happen if the coaches decide to tamper by throwing him into a new position for shits and giggles.

The only folks suggesting he move to linebacker are posters who really don't know how different there are or what skills sets are required. Plus it is much easier to find a linebacker in a 4-3 system than it is to find a 4-3 DE.

but but but I heard that we are switching to the 3-4 and he will be a OLB cause of that. Don't ask me who told me that. I would have to kill u.

    • Say you don't understand PFF without saying you don't understand PFF... Every week seems like some of the same people are complaining about something they clearly don't understand.  I'm not saying they are the end all resource out there but once you understand their methodology you can start to appreciate some of their work. For example, their grading system isn't a high school grading system, try to look at some of it in relative terms.  Rico had an 82 rushing grade, that's pretty good.  I would be curious to know how that compares to every other running back this past weekend. Also, I think he had a few penalties, which if I'm not mistaken are graded pretty harshly.
    • Can we go back to square one for a minute and remember what we paid for this guy and how he was sold?  He was like, the anti excuse. Makes everybody better, Did we get that?  I think the answer is still coming but so far you might can say that for a game or two.  Cam had issues with personnel every season almost. Horrible OL, but he had receivers. Decent to good OL no receivers. Etc. Bryce needs to stand up, or keep standing up, however you want to put it. It is big boy time in year 3. He doesn’t have to make the playoffs but there is a standard. We’ll see what happens.  But the excuses are just fuging tired.  ps, I mean let’s not crown him when he has franchise record production in two wins,.. let’s see when they stop that, how he does then.
    • Where do you draw line top3 or top 5 money then? I wish he goes for a "hometown" deal and doesn't try and reset market but it's going to be tough to argue not paying him BIG MONEY if he continues do be a stabilizing force on the left side of line. DM got some tough decisions to make at the OT position coming up.
