Pike’s role shrinks, not optimism

I would hate to lose him if he is cut

There’s no guarantee he’ll even play Saturday night against the New York Jets, after getting one series and a quick hook in the opener against Baltimore. Even his practice repetitions are extremely limited, but Pike was upbeat about the few chances he does have.

Wrote about Pike in this morning's paper(s). There was a time when they were thinking about keeping 4 QBs. That time has passed.

That would be retarded. The guy has huge potential and I imagine some sort of value. We have a need at WR... I prefer to keep him as the 3rd and let Cantwell go or try to put him back on the PS. Pike will not make it to the PS, if we're gonna let him go we need to get something back for him.

Here's an idea though... Could we have been giving Cantwell the bulk of the garbage time last week b/c they're deciding whether they should cut him instead of Pike? Kind of like, 'is he really what we think he is?' If not, let him go.

Cantwell's upside is greater than Pikes. Pike has a little girl arm.

I thought that was a BS move, and Pike should have gotten more PT time against the Ravens. He throw a nice ball, and the WR flat out dropped it. After 1 series, Hunter Cant-do-well comes back in. Give Pike a freakin chance, he's pretty darn accurate.

Everyone is going to be shocked when we sneak him on the PS. We are limiting him for that very reason. No team in there right mind would grab him if there is no tape on him and the only time he played he got yanked.

Its possible we could. But do you think he we be there all year without some team signing him??

A team would grap him based on the potential he has down the road.he has to better than Jordan Palmer with the bengals.lol

worst pick ever good job hurney this was f**king genius.

Surefire Gems or super steal:

Kalil, Beason, Stewart, Williams, Hardy, Otah, Gamble, Peppers, Witherspoon (letting him go was indeed stupid), Gross , Wharton, Geoff Hangartner, Jeff King, Bernadeau(7th rounder starting), & Clausen (super super bargin price and steal)

3rd round or higher surefire bust (cause anything lower than 3 is unhopeful anyways):

Shelton, Keary Colbert, & Evan Mathis

Now go eat a **** sandwich or something.

you can spew all of your stats you want but you can't deny tony pike was a waste of a draft pick. i have thought about the pick for a while now and I still have zero grasp on why he chose him, it makes no sense.

    • We keep referring to it as Over drafting him like he was really a first round draft pick. We traded up at the end of the first to get him in a deal with Buffalo so that we could grab him and get an extra year on his contract if needed. At the time that sounded like "If he really soars, we can get that fifth year extension automatically". It really probably meant, "We might need five years to really get him up to starting WR speed."  He was basically a second rounder with a potentially meaningless pick as well to pay for those rights. Still, I think that with him we are on the Kelvin Benjamin bubble right now... will he ever be more than just an athlete? Can he really learn to fight and compete for that ball? Can he learn professional routes? Can he handle the fame and more money than he's ever seen in his life? Can he handle all of the pressure a fanbase puts on him? Tough shoes to fill. Not sure I'd want to be in them. I hope he gets it all together soon. A lot, most draftees, can't. Good luck and God bless to the young man. He's got a lot of work to do in a very unforgiving workplace.
    • This is the #1 reason I defend Bryce. Everyone around him is learning on the job, including him. But hey in 3 years we could have a talented offense that grew up together.
    • Nope. No balling out but he could latch on as a backup elsewhere. I still think he would be the weak link on a ridiculously loaded team that would create problems in the Playoff and while facing other really good teams. His limitations are just to much at this level. I have zero fear of playing him in the future. It's a litmus test for the D, granted the D is pretty awful currently so none needed.
