The Athletic - Post-Combine Consensus Big Board - 3/17

this is kind of weird because when you look at the Pat's consensus mock there most have them taking Will Campbell.

i think that for this big board they looked at all the teams the player is mocked to and just put who they have been mocked to the most.

Campbell has been mocked to the Bears a lot as well. I don't see him making that far, though.

Membou may be the front runner OL for some teams based on the measurements.

Per Brugler, it seems split - some scouting teams think Campbell is a guard, others think he should have no problem on the outside.  Vrabel likes his big dudes...so some of the more stickler teams could view Membou (and even Banks) ahead of Campbell.

Pats, Jags, Jets all have OL needs ahead of us...

Walker has a quad strain so he won't be practicing in his Pro day.

Whatever. I like the trade back, getting an extra 2nd would sure help overcome most of these hypothetical 1st round picks. I would also like who the Jets took with our pick.

I do think we're in a perfect spot for a Jeanty trade up partner.

He's not making it past Chicago so if someone wants him and he's there at 8, we may get a few calls.

8 Armand Membou OT | Missouri
Projection: Jets

The only issue with that is the Moton farewell tour this year.

just as a side...the mocksters are all over the place with us, but apparently it's between Tet and Jalon for the most.

i kind of think that we are putting ourselves in position to take Tet. I didn't want that prior to free agency opening up because i wanted it all about that D. after what we did, though, i'd be ok with it.

i'm not convinced that he will be the next Mike Evans, but then i'm just some guy wearing an orange shirt in my office in a totally unrelated field so what do i know?

Yeah, trade down is honestly my preference. Just going purely off the draft chart, we could move down to the #15/16 range for #15/16 and #47/48 for #8. If we wanted to throw in one of our 4ths (#111/114) then we could conceivably be looking at moving down to the #13/14 and #45/46 range.

All I know is that it's going to be a loooooong wait from #8 to #57 and I don't want us to start getting antsy with future picks as a LOT of prospects we like come off the board.

Hopefully someone falls in love with him. Seems like classic Jerry Jones behavior. I'll take #12 and #44 for #8 ALL DAY and even toss them back #111 or #114 if I had to.

I just don't think we're keen on a WR add high up -- many should brace for no Tet, even if available.

Every time offense, Tet, or Warren have been brought up to Dan or Dave, I just don't see the enthusiasm you do when they're talking trenches or defense.

If I had to guess our board, it is something like Mason Graham & Jalon Walker as 1A & 1B, top block after Hunter/Carter.  Will Johnson is a wildcard (medicals dependent), then Mykel & Stewart as 2A and 2B.

In a trade down, there's two (a DB and LB) who could come into play that aren't mentioned as much - Barron & J Campbell.

100% agree.  The interesting part of that too--

1-11 possibility: Ward, Carter, Hunter, (3)OL, Graham, Shedeur, Jeanty, Tet, Warren...you could still be looking at Walker or Johnson at 12. Always have to factor in a random reach by a team as well.  It could also make me stomach a Stewart/Mykel pick a tad more if they are that in love.

And earlier second is great value in this draft.

I've been thinking if we trade back, cambell could be the target

Because of positional value and/or need I think there is a good chance you can take DT, TE, OL, and RB off the table.

My best guess at this point is one of the edges, maybe WR.

If we trade down, I think it will be because we have several edges graded fairly close to each other.

Here's a pre-draft hot take...

Jaxson Dart is going a lot higher than a lot of people expect. Possibly QB2. Possibly top 10.

I like T-Mac as a prospect but I also definitely don't think that he's a legit mid-4.4s type. If he could legit run a 4.48 he would've done it at the Combine. Him posting 4.48 at the Combine would probably make him an absolute top 10 lock, maybe even a chance to go top 5. Everyone always runs faster at their Pro Day. Hell, remember when Funchess ran 4.7 at the Combine then magically ran a 4.48 at his Pro Day? Devin Funchess was NOT a 4.48 guy.

I've gotten over the 40 time. I know straight line speed is important, but guys like AT aren't the fastest yet can consistently get open and their hands are glue. I'd rather have a Brenton Bersin than a Clifford Franklin any day of the week. Guys like Tyreek Hill that have hands and high end speed are an exception, not the rule.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I in no way think Coker is or will be better than tetairoa mcmillan.  I think he gives us alot of the things that tet does.  He's not as tall, but he is big bodied, has good hands, his arms are actually longer than tet, finds the open spaces.  We need an over the top and yac guy.

    • The panthers are such a trash organization at this point that all the huddle can do is argue about which panthers team is historically the worst…good times.
    • Well, hope they're not worried about a torn Labrum or Rotator Cuff, as someone who went through that myself, I know those don't have anything show up on X-Rays but from the MRI, so this is kinda a nothing update, hope it's not a tear or his season is already over if they decide to do surgery now. Which is basically what would be needed to get him to 100% for the start of next season's training camp if it's a labrum.  If he plays the season with it and then does surgery, he's not going to be ready for camp and probably not the start of the season either.
    • I always try to not pay much attention to a team’s preseason win/loss record. The 1982 Washington and 2021 LA Rams both lost every game in the preseason and went on to win the Super Bowl, whereas the 2008 Detroit Lions and 2017 Cleveland Browns both won every game in reason and went on to lose every regular season game. There’s many examples of teams that lose in preseason that go on to have good seasons, but equally there are teams that lose in preseason and that continues in the regular season. Which will we be?  I think our floor is a handful of wins, while our ceiling will probably be around the 9-10 win mark. The latter will require significant improvement from the whole team and coaching staff, and will also need Bryce to play like the QB we drafted him to be. I want to be optimistic and predict a winning season, but it’s really difficult as a Panthers fan!
