Our Offense - The question of the Pre-Season

I know it's only preseason, but so far the offense has been cause to worry. I think we could all agree that outside of DeAngelo Williams, there have been few bright spots.

My question - Is the lack of offense this preseason:

-A product of preseason game planning (holding the real plans back for the regular season)

-Playing to keep everybody healthy (players not taking many risks - even though Matt Moore has gotten hammered a few times)

-Playing two of the top defenses in the league (NYJ were #1 and Baltimore was the #3 defense last year)

-Missing key starters (Stewart, Smith, Otah)

-Succumbing to the youth movement?

I just remember the throttling the '08 Panthers gave the Redskins that preseason and knew that they had some things clicking on offense. But this year and last, the preseason has been pitiful. You can't judge a season based on a few preseason games and there is still time to pick up some steam. I'm just hoping for a TD out of the starters this Saturday...just to show that there is some life!

The only issue I have with "we're not really game planning" is that either is the other team. So great, we'll finally start "bringing it" come the Giants. Well...so will they. What if the Jets had game planned more? Heck, the Ravens put points on the board against us without a game plan. I think that speaks volumes, that we can barely even take the ball down the field. Tomorrow will answer a lot, though. I look forward to it.

There is a difference between not game planning on defense and not game planning on offense. On offense they are evaluating a certain play, route running, blocking, timing, so on and so forth. A huge part of the evaluation for a defense, however, is calls on the line by the mike and making adjustments to the offense. While they may not be calling specific formation based on game planning, the defense is definitely making adjustments to the offense.

Fox has said there will be some game planning this game but having said that

I want to see some chemistry between the qb and receivers.Lets see if the OL can protect the qb.I am sure they will be game planning our running game so it will be interesting what that does for our passing game.

When we kicked Washington's ass, that was the 3rd preseason game. So maybe on this 3rd preseason game we will do the same to Tennessee.... maybe.

Washington had a horrible run defense that year. Our team was hot all preseason up to that point. 08 is a good example of what preseason means, you come out strong and start winning games week 1, not mid season.

If we want to see more chemistry between the quarterback and receivers, we have to put the receivers in for more than a few plays at a time. So far we have shuttled guys in and out just about every series. Plus we need to throw the ball more not less if we want to see some rhythm. Running 2 plays and throwing on third down doesn't build chemistry. Now if you want sustained drives, running may be the way to go.

I think the coaches are still more focused on learning what we can do in different situations than in moving the ball.

This is what I want to believe. :patriot:

Since the third game is the game closest to a real game, I hope we come out have have a lights out offence....

Ten 3

Car 22

oh come on, 22 points is lights out for us. :o

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
