If Fox is Gone Next Year, How Would You Feel about an In-House Hire?

I've said a few times now that I've come around on Fox. He by no means is perfect, he's far from it... But, he's more good than bad/mediocre, which is better than most every other 'candidate' out there. So, I hope, even with our historically stale passing game still in effect and conservative playcalling, that we bring Foxy back on a long-term deal after this year. While it would be exciting to see who we would interview and hire if Fox left... Well... George Seifert was exciting too.

All of that being said, I've been thinking lately... With all the supposed rave reviews that Meeks has been getting for our defense's progress and performance since he's been here, would you be in favor of him being Fox's successor? He wasn't nearly as acclaimed in his coaching gigs prior to coming here... In fact, the Colts were known for their soft defense and being poor annually. I made this thread with mainly Meeks in mind with all the attention and love he's been getting recently, and it just seems like people have forgotten that he was supposedly not even our 1st choice for DC, and how much of a joke most of this board felt the hire was b/c of his Colts' defenses.

Jeff Davidson, he's been called a 'future head coach' by Darin Gantt several times over. It seems he's generally well-regarded as a great football mind, although you couldn't tell by watching our offensive playcalling and sequencing... But, from several different media people, I've heard that he's going to be a head coach in the NFL sooner than later... I guess b/c of his background with the Pats and such.

I for one, like Jim Skipper and don't understand why he wasn't promoted to OC a couple years ago when we hired Davidson. I actually posted on here several times that I wanted Skipper to take over the OC duties, and I feel his work with our RBs vouches for an increase in responsibility. But, for some reason, it seems he's looked over when positions come open - with other teams in the league as well. I don't know why he hasn't been given a promotion either on our team or somewhere else...

So, if Fox leaves, should we stay in-house with one of these guys or go elsewhere?

No thanks. I'd like a "proven" head coach if Foxy up and leaves. This team will need someone to step in who knows what to do to win and how to get the ball rolling properly, not someone who knows the playbook, knows the best private poop room in BOA, and is buddy buddy with JR. Is Meeks a good DC? Damn right he is. Can he be a HC? Beats me. Let's get someone who already has been one and was a success. Will it work? No guarantees. But the time is now for this organization to become a winner, stop wanting to fly under the damn radar; and stop being be some bible belted, southern hospitality, hoedown hangout. I want a damn Super Bowl.

So you want a Chuckie or a Chin?

Another option?

I'm with uptown, I'd rather have a proven like the Chin. I know options are limited as said and to be completely honest, I'd rather keep Fox than promote. Meeks might do well but it is certainly unknown territory.

I think there are only 3 head coaches who taken 2 different teams to the superbowl, Vermeil, Reeves, & Holmgren. None have won with both teams.

Interesting. I like Cowher though I think he could do it. Teams are similar and the talent is there for him. If the Panther's did promote I would rather it be Meeks than anyone else. I also wouldn't mind promoting from another team (like Fox was).

I wouldn't be opposed to Davidson. Our playcalling is nowhere near as bad as some here make it out to be. Lack of execution at QB has hurt us quite a bit most of the years Davidson has been here. 2008 was the only year in which we got even decent play at QB, and we were among the league leaders in scoring. He could be the greatest play caller in the history of the game, but when the QB can't throw, or throws int's consistently, then it will not matter what plays are called.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
