Panthers keep Pike, waive QB Hunter Cantwell

I like this move. They made the right choice by letting Cantwell go. I never liked him personally. Who cares about how hard he can throw when he's not accurate and makes really horrible decisions. Of course, that one throw to Petrowski over the middle by Pike was probably the scariest things I've ever seen a quarterback lead a receiver into... But once he learns not to do dumb things like that, Pike will come out of this with the better upside.

its funny, remember all of the threads before training camp about how cantwell was still #2 on the depth chart and somehow that meant something?

see people, don't get your panties in a bunch during OTA's.

we should have dumped them both, or put pike on PS and brought in a veteran #3 like a Brunell or loseman type. our young guys could use some over the shoulder coaching from an experienced QB.

And Pike wouldn't have made it to the practice squad. It would've turned out the same way our Matt Moore situation turned out... Him being scooped up right away by another team.

cantwell will probably be picked up by another team as a project. the guy did well here

I am all for this. Between the two I definately think Pike has more upside.... and despite the fact we have Moore and Clausen....... I like the fact the team still has 3 potential starters. Who knows, between the three of them the Panthers should have their long term Franchise QB.

Well this would seem to take the air out of the arguements that said we would only keep two QB's on roster this year.

Oh Well. Another guy I liked cut. He gets to join the Taye Biddles, Jason Carter and other guys I have liked over the preseasons. Next year I might publish my list of guys I like who won't make the team. I wonder if Eric Moore is next.

I like Pike slightly better than Cantwell but would not have lost sleep if both were cut.

Clausen was a great player on a bad team.

Not sure if Pike was a great player or just on a great team.

This is what separates pro scouts from college football analysts and reporters. In college your skills are based on a popularity contest that starts with wins... that is why the Heisman winner is now by definition the MVP of a top 3 team in the country.
