DJ finally gets his chance.

Fox kept Jake in to long, and some feel that he waited to long to replace Foster with Williams (I don't agree, but some do). That gives people the impression that he sticks with his guys, but there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

When does Kasay make the list? By the way I hear him talk, retirement is far away. So we have 44 active, because he can't kick-off and with Jarrett added down to 43, so with 4 guys who only play ST and Jarrett... 40 players on offense and defense? Not much depth at any Postion except RB. BTW, when a Fox favorite is cut and is signed by another team...he gets the axe there also.

The suggestion that a guy who's been here for three or four years and was observed by the coaches every day in practice has not been "given a chance" is a tad farfetched to me.

Yes, coaches make mistakes, but "chances" still have to be earned.

Jarrett has more than earned his chance. He put up with all of the negativity and trash from coaches and fans for 3 years. Let's not forget Jake Delhomme went through sitting and watching a sketchy Aaron Brooks play like a hack before leaving.

Not the same situation, but nearly the same circumstances.

What has he done to "more than earn his chance"? The team drafted him in the 2nd, cut their starting #2 before DJ got off the congratulatory phone call and then he flat out vanished. The team was practically holding the door for him to come in and start/contribute.

There's a reason he's managed to scrape and claw his way past such talents as Charly Martin and Kenny Moore to actually see the field just a few times. The org isn't stupid and it wants to win and many times in the last three years DJ could contribute best by sitting his ass on a bench, apparently.

Maybe he really has put it together this year and explodes. That'd be f**king awesome and I'd cheer him on like a motherf**ker. Acting like he's the victim of a incompetent/stupid FO that just refuses to let him shine is wrong, though. The guy had/has issues.

What if the bastard got 100 yards and a td.

This place would go kaboom.

What if Eric Shelton ever ran for 200 yards a game and had 4 touchdowns?

What if Chris Weinke ever threw for 400 yards and had 6 touchdowns on game?

Carolina has drafted many players we kept waiting to come though... but guys who didn't. I'm done dreaming about DJ changing his ways around. If it happens -- I would be shocked, and anybody who isn't completely naive about reality, would be too.

Like I said before, coaches - even good ones - make their fair share of mistakes.

But with that said, the theory that Dwayne Jarrett is a star in waiting who's only being held back because the Panthers coaching staff just doesn't believe in him? The thinking that it's just a group of factors (none of which are his fault) that have made it appear as if he's an underachiever? The notion that, if he had a "fair shot", he'd dazzle us with feats of receiving skill not seen in years?

I have a pretty hard time signing onto that.

Jarrett hasn't gotten his 'chance" because, by more than one account, he's shown poor work ethic and/or sub-standard intellect. Those things are his own fault, not the coaches.

Like most fans, I hope he steps up and proves he was worth a second round pick, but I'd put the chances of this happening at about 50-50.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
    • I think google is confusing signing bonus with guaranteed money. If you get a guarantee of say $10 million, it doesn’t matter if the signing bonus is $5 or $8 million, it’s the $10 million number that affects the cap, as the signing bonus is always just a portion of the guaranteed money anyways. And again, I’ll admit I’m not 100% sure about it, but I’m pretty sure it is the case.
