Stick with Clausen

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Yes, he had some rough moments, but overall it was actually beter than I expected it to be.

I definitely see the potential for him to be a long term starter, even if he has some bad showings early on.

How many would have benched - maybe even given up on - Freeman after that performance against the Panthers last year?

This is what happens to rookies. I hate that he was thrown in this early, but now that he's in, don't screw things up even worse by pulling him out.

And hopefully turns out to be an elite qb.

Clausen looked like a rookie out there and made plenty of mistakes. But like others have said, it is way too early to pull the plug on him. The real issue is whether he improves in his next outing or continues to struggle. If he plays better in a dome on the road next week, then you have to look at that and feel good about his potential. If he doesn't play well then you still don't know how much was New Orleans on the road or whether he isn't as good as we all hoped. But it takes time for you to evaluate a rookie and he needs time to show what he can do. Given that Fox's resume is on the line I know he wouldn't wait very long to put Moore back in, but at this point I doubt he is calling the shots. Clausen will get some more shots and we will all get to see how he does.

It isn't like we are going to have a winning record this year. At this point we would have to win half of our remaining games to finish 6-10. It doesn't seem to matter who we start at quarterback.

How can you say this but benching Moore is just fine?

You know how I feel about starting rookies too early.

You also know how I feel about benching starters.

We can argue all day about whether benching Moore was the right move, but it doesn't really matter now. It's done.

Pulling a Spurrier will only make things worse.

Fox's resume is on the line?? No way. If he puts in Moore, he damages his resume because if he doesn't reel off a huge winning streak, Fox has shown a lack of faith in developing young QBs. This has been a knock on him for a while, and franchises picking him up that do not have established QBs (Browns, for instance) would look at this as a negative.

I think he'll find a job easy, but I think that Clausen gives him a built in security blanket. "No only was my 4-12 team young, it had a rookie starting QB!" as opposed to "Yeah I played musical chairs with QBs..."

    • Carolina Way is gone, it went out the window with the Belichick hiring. They'll hire the best coach they can, ignoring everything else if possible.    Athletic reports that the school's top two targets are Tommy Lloyd and Billy Donovan. They don't care the buyout for a coach either, they and the boosters are willing to spend and will be going outside of the coaching family tree 100%.
    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
