When will we be good again?

We need to do a few things, and a few things just need to happen for us to be good again.

Things that we have to do:

1. Sign some core vets. Beason, Kalil, Williams or Stew.

2. Have to hit on some draft picks, and stop trading them away so we can save money.

3. Have to get a coach in here that can work with our FO.

Things that need to happen:

1. Clausen needs to develop into a top 10 QB.

2. Generate a consistant pass rush.

3. Gross needs to get his mojo back.

If two from the top tier and two from the bottom tier happen, we can be good in less than 3 years.

I think we will improve quite a bit as the season goes along, but it will be too little and too late for a playoff run this year.

Next year (or whenever there is football again) we will have a young talented core of players and 70 million in cap space... not a bad place to be.

why?

i used to feel that way but i now think it is going to happen.

First and foremost, the NFL did not get to the top of the sports pyramid by being stupid, and the lockout would be very stupid. These guys are so good, they wont let emotions stand in the way of pragmatism. Meaning, either they both and give a little and and lose a little, or they both lose.

Secondly, The players want more of the "pie" and so do the owners, so instead of the owners giving that. They want to expand the pie. The players will resist at first, however money talks. And with the expanded rosters and a rookie pay scale, veterans needs will be met.

Lastly and most recently, yesterdays meeting seemed cordial and positive. Furthermore and surprisingly, they even had a joint statement. This outcome, opposed to storming out and raising hell, gives me even more optimism of no lockout.

I agree and as a matter of practice nothing ever gets done until the last minute with these labor disputes... the owners and players union are smart enough to realize a lockout hurts everyone.

This can be answered in 1 word.

Money.

The vast majority of the players will not be able to go without game checks, but I would assume that the owners would be able to do so.

4 games/lockout weeks into the season next year, and you will see the players cave.

Depends on who the next coach is and whether the rebuilding is just starting or almost over. If he for example brings in a veteran and clausen sits the bench, all of his supposed experience doesn't matter. Or if we decide to go to a 3-4 next year that could take a year or two to develop. At this point all we can say is we aren't very good and things are very much up in the air.

Did the Packers switch to a 3-4 last year or in '08? They seemed to make the transition pretty fast.

They had one of the best D's in the league the same year they switched.....however. They have a QB that can really throw the ball around and make teams play from behind, and that helps a D tremendously.

    • Because playoff hockey and regular season hockey aren’t the same thing.  It’s a combination of the game intensity being dialed up with loose officiating.
    • The last 8 weeks, Nix had 2,022 yards, 21 TDs, 6 INTs on 70% completions While Bryce's last 8 games he had 1,709 yards, 12 TDs (albeit adding 5 more rushing), 3 INTs on 61% completions. I'm not going to pretend I watched those Broncos games to know exactly how Nix actually looked, but in retrospect, his statistics were better.  Hell, in just his final 8 games, Nix had only 5 less TD passes than Bryce has in his 30 game (28 starts) career. And you said he had better WRs than Bryce did, but I'm not even sure that's even true either. Sutton and Thielen might be completely different types of WRs, but I'd say they are pretty equal on effectiveness if not even a slight edge to Thielen (63.6 YPG for Sutton to 61.5 for Thielen).  Then XL and Coker vs Marvin Mims and Devaughn Vale, again, at worst a push, if not lean in our favor there too. Why is it so hard for some Panthers fans to just objectively look at our team/Bryce and be honest with themselves. ? He was significantly improved the final two months of the season from his first season and a half.  But he was still a below average QB during that time, even if he had a few good throws and clutch moments.
