Williams Trade Story (The Actual Source)

... Wait... Could lightning strike twice?

Back before the Panthers, I was a Cowboy fan (hush, lemme finish)

I remeber seasons like this one all to well. Then the cowboys traded their number 34...

Fug it! I have to go back to Wisconsin in a week, I'm takin a case of Bakers bourbon, a pound of superman Kush, and every stripper I know to GB and see if I can't turn them into the 1989 Vikings FO!

Yes I'm drinking Bakers right now.. why do you ask?

I was told by a source with knowledge of the trade talks that if the Packers were to pay that high of a price for a player it would be for Williams who has no character issues and has a reputation of being a great teammate and a smart football player.

Good thing DeAngelo is not a good running back....oh wait...so lets get rid of him!...yayyyy

I cant wait to see Jason Spitz and a 3rd round pick which we will waste on a kicker who was a cornerback at a division 3 school.

I don't think Cullen Jenkins would end up here given the history with big bro. I agree with P55. Trading a guy like Deangelo Williams will definitely be on one of those "Top 10 Worst/Most Lopsided Trades of All Time" shows on NFL Network 20 years from now.

This guy, Joe Arrigo, is smoking something. He's Packers fan who's reeling from the pain of losing to Chicago and he's dreaming up a trade for one of the best RB's in the league....nice.

As a Panthers fan, I'd like to report that the Panthers got together with their "brain trust" for 4.5 hours to discuss trading Otah and a 2nd rounder for Tom Brady. There have been some really heated discussions but everything from the Patriots sound positive....stay tuned....

Wha? Ok...Ill take that. D Will for Tom Brady straight up... no strings attached

This is coming from Joe Arrigo... a guy with little. to no football knowledge...

He said Randy Moss was a "done" deal..

He said MarShawn Lynch deal was "final"

He said Brett Favre was going to the Lions...

I could go on, and on, and on... the guy is an idiot.

From a Packers forum. Can we stop now? Even though I posted in here too, it is getting lame.

That explains all the "hate" that caused him to stop posting rumors.

I tried to look for some prior predictions of his but couldn't find any. If those are examples, no wonder they don't believe him.

Most of the people in this thread are exhibiting a huge lack of understanding of how the NFL works. As much as we all love D-Will and would love to keep him, it would make sense to trade him at this point for the right value.

a. His contract is up after this season and the chances of us resigning him with several other starters to extend is unlikely.

b. He's nearing 30 and we have three young, highly capable RB's behind him.

c. If we can trade from our deepest position to improve at a position of need, it's worth it.

As for the value we would get for him...I'm sorry to tell you guys but a 1st rounder isn't likely. Here's why:

a. D-Will may very well have the talent to be a Top 3 back in the league, but that doesn't mean that anyone outside of our organization thinks that of him. His relatively small amount of carries in his career, the fact that he is in a small market with a mediocre team and the fact that he has been splitting with J-Stew means he is considered a top 10 back, but not top 3.

b. Running back is one of the least valued positions in football. As great as D-Will is, great running backs are fairly common and don't have very long careers. Very few RB's in the league right now would merit a 1st rounder in a trade: Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson and that's about it. It's just not worth it when a top RB will only give you 2-3 more seasons at their peak level and rookie RB's have a very easy transition to the pro game.

c. A 2nd rounder straight up would be pretty solid value for D-Will. A 2nd and a player or another conditional pick would be fantastic. A 3rd and a player or another conditional pick isn't bad.

What we all need to understand is that Stewart is just as good as D-Will and four years younger. Goodson is looking like he could be something really special and can definitely fill the role of a 2nd RB. A 60/40 split between Stewart and Goodson will still be one of the best rushing attacks in the league (assuming our O-Line picks it up). Sutton is also a great utility player and can fill in sufficiently when necessary. You won't find many 3rd string RB's in the league as good as Sutton.

I'd say your the one lacking the understanding of how the NFL works. Name the last blockbuster trade in the NFL.

James Something Or Other and a 4th Round Pick. Nice. Don't think I'd hire you to be GM of my fantasy league.

a. His contract is up after this season and the chances of us resigning him with several other starters to extend is unlikely.

We have oodles, and oodles, and oodles of cap room.

b. He's nearing 30 and we have three young, highly capable RB's behind him.

DeAngelo is not your typical 30 year old RB. Remember that other guy on the team?

c. If we can trade from our deepest position to improve at a position of need, it's worth it.

All these points validating the fact even further that he likely wouldn't be traded.

DeAngelo is the best back on the team. By a very, very wide, margin.

    • he used to have nothing good to say about them. put him on the payroll...problem solved.
    • I am also intrigued by Mohammad. Could be another story. Seems like he has the talent but seems to have had some issues with coaching schemes/changes,  some attitude and work ethic issues? Hopefully his being home can get him focused. Here is what I read ( all second hand to me ) :    1- He has all the skills but was nonexistent under two different coaching staffs. He butted heads and was benched under Jimbo (for wearing sleeves under his uniform after the coaching staff told him not to 🙄). Then under the new staff, he rarely saw the field – he had just 55 yards last season. When he saw the field, he either made the most impressive play of the game or would get an unsportsmanlike penalty. Just a bizarre case because he has the talent.     2 -Aggie here to provide some insight. As the other poster mentioned, Moose had a weird time at A&M and it didn't help that Jimbo's offense was painful and wide receivers never seemed to excel. His third year was promising but he was also competing with Evan Stewart, Noah Thomas, and Chase Lane who I'm pretty sure were all 5*s. Also Ainais Smith and Devon achane ran majority of the offense. That said, going into his last year with Jimbo, a couple guys like Lane and Achane left, and most Ags thought this would be the year Moose really steps up. Unfortunately as the other poster mentions, he disappeared into misconduct and coaching change.
    • I'm more impressed with the UDFA that the guys they have drafted in the first the last 2 years. A whole lot of prove it is still needed before any improvement should be talked about seriously.
