Will Steve Smith have a threat opposite him next year?

Smith needs a threat under center. That guy may be on the roster now but there is still development to be done and patience expected from our fanz.

I believe more and more that an oddball athlete like Smitty while amazing is possibly detrimental to the passing attack. Give me three clones over three specialists any day.

I doubt we pick a WR in the first. We picked one WR in 16 seasons in the first round and he promptly went to prison. We could go quarterback if Clausen doesn't have a good year and the new coach is an offensive guy. or most likely someone on the defensive side of the ball.

For those saying we never go quarterback, it depends on whether we hire an offensive coach or continue the string of defensive guys.

I don't think we will get a QB regardless of who is the next head coach.

If Jimmy didn't complete another pass all year long and threw for 15 INT's I don't think you could call him a bust. I seemingly remember a couple of very good QB's that looked VERY bad their rookie years.

One year, good or bad, doesn't make or break a career.

I don't think we take a WR either...UNLESS we take AJ just to have trade bait. We are fine at WR position, young but fine. O-line can be picked up in the second round and we are set at Running backs, trading one of them or not...I believe we will go with D help again with our first pick, again unless its trade bait.

In my opinion,we already have next seasons # 2 receiver on the team.

LaFell and Gettis should be greatly improved by that point and Edwards learning and development curve should also be enhanced.

A.J. Green would be a temping pick but we have to many other needs to select him, even if he were available, when we pick in the first round.

As others have told you over and over, you may be totally sold on Jimmy but other teams passed over him twice. There is no guarantee at all that they will be loyal to him in the future. With a new coach and system, they will likely bring in a veteran. For all that matter Clausen could be Weinke, given one year as a rookie and then not played at all when the new regime comes in. He was a heisman trophy winner which is a better pedigree than Clausen and you see how far that got him.

The only guarantee he has is to play well right out of the chute. What you seem to forget is that most teams that put rookies in and stick with them through thick and thin have a high draft pick and huge money already committed to him. A mid second round and 2 million a year is hardly a high commitment which forces you to stay with him.

After all we are paying Moore 3 million and he is riding the pines. If you think that we are going to stick with Clausen no matter how poorly he plays, you are deluded. In fact if he doesn't play well the next 2 games, you could see Moore back in there.

Supposing the coach cuts Lafell and Gettis.

The available Top-O-the-List for 2011 so far looks like this:

Randy Moss

Mike Sims-Walker

Steve Smith, Giants

Miles Austin

Sidney Rice

Jones-Drew might benefit from a better back to complement him and secure any health concerns. The Jags still pound the rock dont they?

if we never draft or do things because of 1 bad incident, then we are fools...

They past on him other than his ability to play. It was his attitude! Weinke was a old man coming out of college...He had no room to learn. Plus Leinhart, Troy Smith, Jason White, and Eric Crouch all have heismans. It means nothing in the NFL
