Yas: Clausen here to stay, maybe no Luck

Also, I'm starting to think his sources may be team equipment and the head BOA Stadium custodian...

Because someone posted in the "Hurney on the radio" (1110 Am I think?) thread that Hurney essentially sidestepped the question about Clausen and then said you need a franchise guy to make your team successful, then talked about TB, NO, and ATL already have them.

Just fire Marty Hurney for s**** sake. If he passes on ANY QB in this draft to give Clausen another chance I might not root for the Panthers anymore. It would just be a ridiculous decision to stick with Jimmy Clausen.

its not going to happen. Just another reason to hate Pat Yas for starting the s**t. everyone with a brain knows that luck is going #1 overall to whoever has the first pick

Not to mention its not going to be completely up to Hurney anyways if he DID want to keep Clausen. You have to consider what the new coach wants. You have to consider what will sell tickets. You have to consider a lot of other things, not just what Marty Hurney thinks. IMO part of the negotiations for a new coach will be having a large say in the player that gets drafted with our #1 pick. You get this opportunity probably once in a decade (if that) when you are a good franchise (which I think we are).

If the Panthers end up with the #1 pick, have the opportunity to draft Luck and dont there will be mutiny in Panther land. This is one where JR, Smitty and the rest of the world should step in. Make sure Hurney doesnt do something so stupid. I dont care how one might think Clausen may turn out. You dont pass on a possible franchise QB. If you take Luck and he ends up being a bust.. so be it. That is much better than passing on him, when he is right there and he ends up being the next great QB.

    • He can’t even learn to run routes. No chance in hell he can do both that and pick up blocking schemes
    • Well he had essentially a 70% completion rate for almost three thousand yards.  Biggest issues were awkward and inconsistent release.  I wouldn't call arm strength bad, but not great.
    • I see him being better and most of that is a few downfield passes that were seemingly non existent.    But it is what is around him that has dictated the trajectory more than the quarterbacking. He is game manager level and unable to dictate to defenses.  And even if I am wrong and he is the reason we ‘upwarded’, we are bumping our heads on the ceiling and only making meager gains. If it is an incline it is awfully shallow degree wise. Like a finance graph that tracks your progress and hovers around the rate of inflation. Barely breaking even.  Is that where you want your money?  We make up these deadlines expectations and generally he does the minimum of what he needs to do to hang around.    It does not encourage me to believe that when we get into a game against a good run d that we cannot break down with our run game, to believe that we can pivot to the air and successfully counter their strategy.  But they run it back again. Of course I am gunshy of a repeat of the same thing we have watched for three years.    oh, and yes his durability is his most impressive positive for my money. I fear the other shoe dropping on that and the contractual consequences that will follow.   Last  of all, too late to edit my mistake here but would like to acknowledge it: the last three years has done very little to convince me that I was not wrong in not wanting him. One too many “not”s.
