Is Gettis the guy?

Does anyone here think that Gettis will be the WR we've been looking for? Would you say he's easily the most promising WR since Drew Carter or Steve Smith?

It seems to me like he's got all the talent in the world for success. He looks like a bright player too. It was pretty amazing to see him break that dude's ankles in the SF game. Let's say he get's another two 100yd games. Would the combo of Gettis and LaFell be enough to pass up on a guy like Green?

I like Gettis and LaFell, they both could be considered #1 type receivers. Green is a stud and nearly impossible to pass up on. Those four (Counting Smitty) makes our trade last year for Edwards a wasted pick. What makes it even worse is we would have had the 33rd or 34th pick overall and probably been able to get a STUD DT.

I like Edwards and I like Clausen but if Luck or Green ends up on the Panthers doorstep we GOTTA TAKE EM. That means the careers of these two players will be short lived at least in a Panther Uniform.

If we pick Luck, all the receivers will look better in a year or two. Green is a stud for sure and if Luck doesn't come out he should get consideration for sure. The same with the corner from LSU. Can't miss players who elevate their position almost immediately. Still if you can find a franchise quarterback like Luck. You can't pass up on that either.

No receiver will look good without someone to get him the ball. One day the joke will be, how do you shut Steve Smith down as a receiver? Have Jimmy Clausen as your quarterback.

Seriously though, everything revolves around the quarterback and until that issue gets settled, every other draft pick pales in comparison.

Gettis can definitely stretch the field for us, not sure he's much of a route runner or ever will be, but we need a burner and Gettis is that guy.

I'm hoping LaFell can be the possession receiver that catches everything underneath while Gettis takes the safeties down-field with him.

He needs to do a better job of catching with his hands. He still lets too many balls get to his body. He really doesn't do a good job of snatching the ball out of the air, although hopefully that will improve with experience and development.

Also, he hasn't shown the ability to battle a defender(s) for the ball and come down with it (truthfully, he really hasn't even had the opportunity to show the ability)...so that's an unknown for him, but necessary in any #1 receiver.

    • Pytor kochetkov assigned to Chicago for conditioning stint. Wonder if he gets playing time in the playoffs if Bussi or Freddy flounders
    • What specific LT at 19 are all of the OT Stan’s wanting? Be specific. All have issues and are not guaranteed to improve the OL.. The chances of one of these LT’s who are projected at 19 (Proctor, Lomu) being a bust is much higher than a guy like Lemon/Concepcion imo. Do you really want to draft a kid who has weight struggles along with lateral movement issues? And the other who was a shitty run blocker vs Big 12 competition? Morgan and Co. want to see how Rasheed Walker plays.. They also want to see how Icky’s rehab goes.. There’s a lot of  “wait and see at OT”  We don’t have the luxury for our 1st round pick being a backup. We lack top end talent. Morgan and the others have made it known they want to win now. For that reason, I’m almost positive we punt on OT in the first this year and worry about it next year in the first round if need be.    Thieneman would be ideal. He’s a natural “center field” safety with great coverage skills. For the posters who want trade up for Downs…Do you realize he struggles in coverage? He’s more of a box safety. We already have two of those players.. I wouldn’t mind trading in front of the Vikings for the Thieneman though.. Next need would be DT, but I don’t see the value there at 19.. Same with edge. WR at #19 is very realistic. Who would improve this team more than Lemon/Concepcion? You could argue a slot CB, but the value isn’t great there either. People tend to forget the Seattle Seahawks game.. Yes BY sucked, but no one was getting open.. We could use a quick savvy route runner to beat man coverage. TMAC and Coker are great, but consistently creating separation vs Man Coverage is not their strength.
