Harbaugh back to Stanford?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I'm beginning to believe it might just happen, and here's why.

Word was that the teams most in play for him (Panthers, Broncos, 49ers) all had reps at the game.

This morning, you have the Richardson press conference (and likely obfuscation, but nevermind that for now) and you have both the Broncos and 49ers putting out feelers for other candidates (Mike Mularkey in Denver, Hue Jackson and Perry Fewell in San Francisco).

Couple that with Gantt's reports talking about Harbaugh wanting things that the organization wasn't willing to give, and the wheels start turning.

It may be that Harbaugh is asking for the kind of control that nobody is willing to give him.

That being the case, his likely choice would be to go back to Stanford, try to put together an even better season next year, and let that be his launching point.

The real bad news for us? If that happens, then in all likelihood, Andrew Luck stays in school :(

The question becomes whether that threat be enough to make you want to give him what he wants.

I think you're reading too much into this. Harbaugh may have told the reps (if he actually met with any of them, remember it was literally the night and at the venue of the final game of the season for his football team) that he would prefer to meet later in the week and to let his team have a moment to shine before he ruins it by announcing he's leaving. After all, that's basically what he told the media afterwards when the question came up.

Stanford will finish as a top 5 team this season. I don't see how it is realistic for him to stay with the hopes of impressing future employers more in an additional season.

Harbuagh just has too many options on the table for a team not to seriously look elsewhere.

Pete Carroll got a five year deal at $6.6 million per along with control over their football operations

I would think that Harbaugh will ask for the same control and 7 to 7.5 million per year. Stanford's offer on the table is for three million per. Plus he would have Luck for only one more year (or none at all). And there are the rumors that he is really interested in a NFL job and you always strike while the iron is hot.

I think he is out of Stanford by Monday.

Rich Rod FIRED!!!!

I was just about to post this. Michigan will definitely try to put together a killer package now. I say the odds of Harbuagh staying are really low. There's just too many issues between the pay he can receive, the type of athletes he can bring in, the Farms dedication to football etc etc at Stanford....

I'll grant that it might not mean anything, but there's definitely some evidence.

Word from the SF beat writers had Trent Baalke as a shoo-in for GM, but then PFT had a bit stating that Harbaugh might not want to work for Baalke.

You could suggest that Jackson or Fewell might be Rooney Rule interviews, but if that's the case, why two of them?

The Rooney Rule wouldn't explain Mularkey in Denver though. The Broncs just sent John Elway to Miami in order to snag Harbaugh. Now all of a sudden they're looking at someone else?

Could it all just be "due diligence"? Sure it could.

But I have to accept the possibility that after hoping for both Harbaugh and Luck, we might end up with neither :(

    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
