Can we all agree that Nick Fairley need not be drafted at number 1?

Awesomeness!!

I agree with you. To go by popular opinion, the only positions you can take at #1 are QB, LT, or DE (most say no to WRs at #1 and RBs are even much less #1 pickable). That kinda narrows our options as there are no LTs worth even close to #1 overall, no clear cut #1 QB, and no need for a DE that high. I say the only positions that are off limits at #1 are FB, TE, Kicker. If the most baddest assed Guard were in the draft and the rest of the draft was not impressive, take the Guard at #1 if it can fill a spot on your team. If the LB to end all LBers is in the draft, why not. Almost happened with Aaron Curry a couple years ago. Some were predicting it. There's not always going to be a QB, LT, or DE: A) needed, or B) worthy of #1 overall.

Everyone keeps saying "You don't take (insert position) at #1." Why? Are we only allowed to draft a QB, RB, WR, Tackle or DE at #1? Suh was nearly drafted first overall last year and would have been a great pick at that spot. For those who say you shouldn't draft a CB first overall...if you knew that you had the next Darelle Revis available, of course you would take him. We don't need to pigeon-hole ourselves into certain positions. We should take the BPA that also addresses a need. That would be Peterson or Fairley. Green or Bowers would just be a luxury pick. Sure it'd be nice to have a good rookie DE or WR, but those positions aren't high on our need list right now. CB and DT are.

And none of the QB's left in the draft are worth drafting in the first round picks.

Have you seen Revis play this year? He isn't worthy of the 1st round position he was taken at, based off of his play this season. Jets gave up 8td passes all of last year, this year its 20+

That's completely beside the point. What if the guy is the next Asomugha, then? It doesn't matter who we compare him to. The point is that if you can get an elite, shut down CB, he's worth drafting high.

not when your biggest need is on the defensive line.

drafting cornerbacks is no different than drafting wide recievers. they look like superman in college...

...then they get hit with the physicality and speed of the nfl, and look like superman with a kryptonite choke chain on.

Well no sh*t you can take an elite shutdown CB with a high pick, but your point was Revis should have been taken #1 overall in hindsight. But not if you look at his game film this season you wouldnt. And don't even get me started on Asomugha, have you seen how many times Oakland was torched through the air this year?

Stats from Suh's senior year -

82 tackles

47 solo

35 assists

12 sacks

1 int

Fairley's 2010 -

55 tackles

31 solo

24 assists

11 sacks

1 int

If you think he can be the next Suh, then take him. But Suh had a TON of more tackles, and saw just has much if not more double / triple teams then Fairely
