Here's a list of former Rivera colleagues that could potentially be looked at for staff spots if Rivera gets the head coaching job.

JOHN RAMSDELL

Current: Chargers QB Coach

Options: OC, QB Coach

Connection: Chargers QB Coach (07-present)

Possibility: Been written that his contract is up; very possible if true.

CHARLIE JOINER

Current: Chargers WR Coach

Options: OC, WR Coach

Connection: Chargers WR Coach (08-present)

Possibility: He's a former Charger player and getting results. Have to imagine they'd like to keep him.

ROB CHUDZINSKI

Current: Chargers TE Coach

Options: OC, TE Coach

Connection: Chargers TE Coach (09-present)

Possibility: Decent, but I'm not a big fan based on his prior resume'.

Possibility: Depends on the Bears. Could be a solid DC option.

DAVE TOUB

Current: ST Coach, Bears

Options: ST Coach

Connection: Eagles ST Coach (01-03) Bears ST Coach (04-06)

Possibility: Hard to imagine the Bears letting him go, but he's a longtime colleague and would be a great pickup.

DON JOHNSON

Current: DL Coach, Chargers

Options: DL Coach

Connection: Bears DL Coach (05-06) Chargers DL Coach (09-10)

Possibility: Depends on the Chargers. I'd say probable if they decide to revamp post-Rivera.

The names that most interest me from this list are Ramsdell, Babich and Toub. I seriously doubt Toub is attainable, but six years of working together makes me think Rivera would at least make the attempt (never hurts to ask).

Not a big Childress fan, but I could live with him as a QB coach. Likewise, I could see an interest in Ron Turner as QB coach more so than OC.

My first choice for DC would be Rob Ryan, but Babich could be good too. In my dreams, we'd get Ryan as DC and Babich as an LB coach, but that's one of those "if that happens I'll shave my head" type scenarios.

Some of the non-acquainted possibilities that interest me are former Cowboy WR coach Ray Sherman and former Vikings OC Darrell Bevell. The Vikes also let go of offensive line coach Pat Morris and are expected to be parting ways with Special Teams Coach Brian Murphy shortly.

McCoy wouldnt be bad at all for an OC. Look what he did with Orton last year... hell, he made The Golden Calf of Bristol look like a QB and he made a QB no one ever heard of (Delhomme) make it to the Super Bowl.

I think McCoy was kinda how it was with Andy Reid and Brad Childress was in Philly. A yes man where the HC called the offense.

    • Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.
    • Well, seeing as we play the Lions at home this year, pretty sure that rumor isn't true.
    • Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
