He makes a lot of very good points. Glenn Dorsey being as highly touted as Nick Fairley is now, guys going from 2nd rounders to top-10 between January & April, etc.

My prediction: Blaine Gabbert shoots up draft boards after an impressive combine/pro day and we end up taking him 1st overall.

To be fair to Dorsey, he was hurt his first year and then got moved to play DE in a 3-4, so I don't think anybody knows if he can do what he was drafted to do. That being said, I still want Green because I just don't know that you can take the first overall pick off of one good year. Please no Gabbert. I'm just not seeing it.

To be fair I can't believe the mock draft choices Don Banks chose, so I am not 100% sure of the validity of how the arguement is being made. Sure people go up and down, but I wouldn't base it solely on one person's mock draft. The one draft he chose of Mel Kipper and it's almost spot on...

However I am going to make a note of the top 10-15 or so from the scouting website I use which has multiple people reporting and takes information from several sources. At least then it's more like an 'average'. Then I will copare it to the actual draft to when all juniors have declare.

He's certainly no Luck, but he's as good as any normal 1st overall QB the last few years. We've all gotten used to the idea of a can't-miss QB in Luck, but Gabbert is what most 1st overall teams end up with.

At any rate, it's just a hunch.

Not no, Hell no to Gabbert. As for as #1's he doesn't make a wart on the Butt of Sam Bradford.

I think Blaine Gabbert's ceiling is Alex Smith when he came out. The '9ers took him, but he was arguably the weakest #1 overall QB that I can think of after JaMarcus Bust. I think Gabbert is a good quarterback in a terrible draft, which inflates his overall draft status. If I was sitting at 5-10 in the draft, okay, take him (as long as he has a solid pro-day/combine), but at #1..... no thank you. I feel like we need a quarterback, but the need got blown up bigger with Andrew Luck being available. Yes, we don't have a franchise starting quarterback yet, but we need to at least evaluate Jimmy with a healthy line, better coaching staff and receivers that aren't as green as they were this past year. If Luck was there, you take him because he has franchise quarterback written all over him. This QB class is in that next tier below Luck.

So lets draft QB's high in ever draft for next 5 seasons

What ever happen to developing the QB you just drafted ?

Sure he had a rough 1st season in a F O X controlled offense

The majority of drafted QB's have a rough 1st season when pressed to start .

2nd- 3rd seasons is when you can start evaluating a QB

We need to make choices first on the direction of this football team as decided by the front office and coaching staff. Are we just going BPA? Are we going Defense? Are we going Offense? This will simplify our ideas on who we will take 1st overall. If we are going BPA I see us as going

Nick Fairley DT Auburn 97

Patrick Peterson* CB LSU 97

A.J. Green* WR Georgia 97

In no specific order as I can't say who stands out the most and I don't see us drafting a DE under any other circumstances than we don't resign Johnson.

If we go Offense we have the easiest choice as there are only two candidates and arguably really only one candidate

A.J. Green* WR Georgia 97

Blaine Gabbert* QB Missouri 96

Defense we are looking at

Nick Fairley DT Auburn 97

Patrick Peterson* CB LSU 97

I really believe that we only have three players to consider in Fairley, Peterson, and Green.

We will draft Fairley if we are defensive and need driven in this draft

We will draft Peterson if Marshall leaves, we are defensive driven, and we are set on FA DT pickups

We will draft Green if Smith leaves and we are set on Pickles or Moore as our QB next year.

What else is there to argue about before pro days/the combine guys?

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
    • When we didn't trade him to the Rams or the Bears (I believe the Bears said they would take one of Brown/ Burns/DJ Moore) we should have just signed him and kept him.  We should have traded him to the Rams obviously and we should have kept DJ and traded Burns.  We made all three wrong choices with Burns lol.
