Why not trade Steve Smith?

why in the world would we care what's best for one player?

i don't care if the best thing for smith is putting him on another team so he could get a ring. once he or any other player is with another team then i am done caring what they do or what happens to them unless they are on my fantasy football team. they are just another player in the league that i don't wish any success for because they aren't a panther.

that said, i wouldn't be pissed if we traded him and it might be the best thing provided we get an upgrade at WR in the process.

I'd be for trading him if you can get a 2nd for him. Otherwise no.

I'd be borderline trading him for a 3rd because to be honest...does his explosiveness negate the character issues he has? Everyone's quick to wonder if he's pissed...or he's about to go off on the QB/coach/whatever. I like fire in a player, but not at the expense of creating a bad atmosphere for youth development.

Why would we trade a 2nd or 3rd for Smith? We are notoriously suspect as picking 2nd and 3rd rounders who end up contributing right away. Even with our horrible quarterback play he still had 46 catches for 554 yards and 2 TDs. With better play he is likely to get closer to a 1000 yards again and 7 TDs. Plus we won't likely trade him until after the draft and the CBA is done meaning we wouldn't even get use of the draft picks until next year. Why would we trade our best receiver for a future draft pick after Smith had his worse season since 2002. Seems he would have better trade value after a good year and try and trade him after the 2011 season.

Smitty may have lost a step, (yeah I said it) but he has a couple of seasons of clutch games left. Add to that the fact that while he's fast, he had to truly learn his position due to his size, thus he has a lot to teach young receivers. To top it off, after this season, we'd be lucky to get a 4th for him.

If he wants to leave, goodbye & good luck. If he doesn't, he's to valuable.
