I keep hearing "TRADE DOWN! TRADE DOWN!"

like nobody realizes it's a good idea. first of all, i will concede that it does work to our advantage if we can move down, accumulate some more picks, no doubt it's a good idea, but to think of it as a real possibility (like, something substantial, just because there's a 1 in a million chance someone comes to us with an offer does not make it a real possibility) to the point where it's like we let a good opportunity slip away is.

once in the last ten years someone traded up to the no.1 pick (Falcons, Michael Vick) and that was for a player with such a unique skill set and talent, it took that much to get the Falcons to move up.

This draft has nobody like that, there's really no incentive for someone to give up an easter basket of picks and players for any of top prospects. There aren't any kind of prospects with that kind of attraction. First of all in this day and age of the NFL only a QB could have that power, and if there was one it would be a better idea to sit tight and make that pick instead of trading it away.

In this situation, yea, it is a good idea if we can trade down, but for the concept to have so much support that it suggests the ball's in our court for a trade like that and we can move if we want to is not a realistic perspective

barring some unnatural and unwarranted hype for some player (which gabbert is coming close to accomplishing) the player that teams are getting stiffies over isn't in this draft.

i think at this point you will find very few who don't think that trading down is a good idea. there is no debating that it is as friendly a situation to trade the #1 pick as there has ever been. the only debate is if there is someone that would be worth trading up for.

basically i wish a lot of other GMs had the kind of hard on for fairley that a good percentage of this board does because then Hurney would be answering a lot of phone calls

The only hope is if a team falls in love with Bowers or Fairley or possibly Peterson and the rookie cap will be in place. Buffalo wants Fairely badly and it would not cost much to move up. However, teams at the top have many needs. The Panthers need to consider 2012 picks, where they would get more value. In addition, if there is a lockout, it could be better.

With the expectation of a rookie cap, teams may be more likely to trade up--but they would have to love a player. Unfortunately, it seems ever position at the top has 2 elite players. DE (Bowers, Quinn) CB (Peterson, Amukamara), and DT (Fairley, Dareus).

i've always dreaded the day this franchise got the #1 pick. pussified fans are unable to handle it. conservative fanbase afraid of success who want to fill the roster with middle of the road talent.

trade Williams, who needs a record breaking RB combo when we're "good enough" without him.

trade Smith, Gettis and Lafell are "good enough."

you're all sons of a bitch.

Well what part of we don't have to ask for a boat load to move down making it much more attractive is posters missing? We all know we can't get the 'normal' amount of picks or whatever for this #1, but that doesn't mean we can't trade down a few spots and pick up a couple more draft picks.

And yes believe it or not at least 3 teams will be calling Hurney asking him what it will take. Al Davis comes to mind immediately.

I agree. I don't think anyone is going to offer us anything crazy. But I am sure there will have to be some offers.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
