Cam Newton Workout Phenomenal

I don't care about his troubles when he was 19. Lord knows I did some stupid poo at that age. These are football players, not saints.

It seems to me he has matured. Leading an sec team to a national championship proves that. He has the grit to get it done in the NFL.

My only concerns are his ability to read defenses, and more importantly, the panthers ability to teach him to. Rivera will be judged quickly on how his staff can develop a QB. Coming from a spread offense, no progressions, just either throw or run.... I can see him struggling if forced to start the next season.

That's why we need to get out of this mentality of "he has to start right away to be worth the pick". It's pretty much guaranteed that even a polished QB like Luck or Jimmy Clausen (and yes, he was considered to be pretty polished by most observers) is going to struggle as a rookie and that he will be a 2-3 year project. Why not let the guy learn at his own pace so you have a better chance of him having a great future instead of flaming out after 2 years like so many "NFL ready" QB's have.

I have a lot of reservations about how quickly Cam will adjust to the NFL (if he ever will) because of not being required to read defenses, make progressions, etc. in the Auburn offense.

However, if Rivera and team think he is the guy.....then I will support him whole heartedly.

Because.....I am just a fan who knows DICK about evaluating how talent will translate to the NFL.

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
