Why on earth would you do that? he's said for a while that he wants to bring in a young guy to be #1 and play the slot. there's absolutely no reason to trade Smith at this point, unless we absolutely NEED an extra 5th or 6th round pick. which i can't forsee.

the ideal situation for Smith at this point is to take on a Wes Welker type of role lining up in the slot and burning the hell out of defenses who have to focus on Moss (Green).

I just don't see us picking up another young WR when we selected 3 last year. Somethings gotta give.

i think a lot of people had the same thoughts when we took Stewart. we'd just taken Williams in the first recently and there was no reason to get another HB. but awesome things happen when you're stacked with talent in skill positions.

green and peterson are probably the safest picks of those we should be considering at #1, but they aren't necessarily the best. i like newton and fairley more (in that order), mainly due to the amount of talent they have and their potential.

I love Stewart......but would have been nice to pick Otah at 13 and someone like Forte, Desean Jackson, or Ray Rice in the 2nd. The following year could have picked Nicks, Britt or Hood with that 1st we gave up.
