D.Will Unlikely To be Tagged

Williams will be the cheapest. Johnson's tag will be pretty crazy, especially after that deal the Raiders gave Richard Seymour.

I think it's pretty obvious that they will give Kalil a long term deal right when a new CBA is reached. Johnson on the other hand only has one good full season, so the tag might be better for him to see if he can replicate that success next season before giving him a long term deal.

I personally think the tag will go to either Johnson or Williams. I wish we knew what the deal was with tags next year. Wouldn't Johnson be classified as a RFA under the current CBA, thus making him eligible for a 1st&3rd round tender?

i think not tagging williams is a prudent move. absolutely he's a valuable player but looking at the roster the decision making is likely not very complicated. hearing rivera talk about the o-line, i suspect it will be kalil but johnson is the kind of player you definitely want to keep. the panthers have already waited out his development seasons and he's starting to round into a dependable rusher. why let him go at this point?

I can't imagine us tagging a Kalil. Tagging a center? At his age, get the guy a longterm deal. Money well spent.

I'd slap the tag on Johnson. He put a up very good numbers with no starting caliber DT on the roster and a guy who basically posed no pass rush threat playing the majority of the time at the opposite DE spot. Teams are always willing to give big money to good young pass rushers and that's what Johnson is. If he hits the market we may lose him.

I hope we resign D-Will. I really like Stewart, but the guy has battled injuries below the knees every season. They haven't hampered him too much on the field yet, but that's the key word - YET.

Johnson would cost us the most, he's (financially) the worst one to tag. It does make sense though if they feel or are usnure he may not be a long term answer

But if you tag a center you must pay him like a top OT.

Uh so? If we're to believe JR is some benevolent old fart who made the decisions he made to help this team in the long run, he can pay a top-flight center like an elite tackle for a year if it means we keep him and get to sign him long-term once a CBA is in place.

I agree that we need to lock up Kalil, but it would not help the team to pay a center the same type of money that the top paid Tackles are getting right now. If we franchised Kalil, his one year salary would be very close to the highest paid center in the NFL (Nick Mangold)

I don't see the point in tagging Kalil. You know he's good and he's young, get a deal done.

I don't see the point in tagging anyone if we can resign all of our FA's to deals. It isn't like we are losing out big time if we don't franchise someone.

Don't get me wrong, if the front office has a feeling that one of our guys (Johnson or Deangelo) will leave for another team then you have to slap em with the tag, but too many people act like the franchise tag is burning a hole in our pocket and we absolutely have to use it on someone.

What MOST people fail to realize, is the tag is used more as a tool, to keep the player from hitting the open market, and extending time to get a long term contract signed.

That is how the Panthers intend on using the tag.

Worse case scenario, richardson pays him LT money for one season. Well worth the price to get the young center signed for his nfl career.
