Brees says JR comments got blown out of proportion

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees(notes) downplayed reports that Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson was rude and condescending to him and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Drew Brees during a bargaining session at the Super Bowl.

“I think there was a lot of rumors probably coming out of that CBA negotiating session that Saturday at the Super Bowl," Brees told XX 1090 Radio in San Diego, per SportsRadioInterviews.com. "To be honest, I haven’t even seen the comment that was made, but I heard it was from Jay Feely(notes) who kicks for the Jets. And he wasn’t there at the meeting. I’m not sure of how that got out or why.

"But no, I mean, it was my first bargaining session to be at and obviously there was a lot talked about. And emotions run high at times, but there was nothing that was derogatory or demeaning, so I’m not sure how that got blown out of proportion.

I am a bit disappointed, actually, because I was proud of JR after thinking it through. Manning has no more business in JRs meeting as JR has in Manning's huddle (although JR has been in the Colt huddle before and Manning has never been in a negotiation of this nature, I am willing to bet). If you want to crunch numbers and you only know Xs and Os, then prepare to be schooled.

I would have believed it from a Jerry Jones, but if JR said it, it needs to be said. Many got upset with his tone at the news conference. He was putting the reporters in place. They are like dogs waiting for scraps at the table. Many cross the line between reporting the news and creating it. He don't play dat.

For the record this came out several days ago on the record and then the fact that Jerry was actually a dick was confirmed off the record so I feel like we're just going back in time here but OK let's pretend this article means something and Drew Brees plays for the Colts.

    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
    • According to Scott Fowler, in an article about former Panthers announcer applying for a job with the Ravens... what that job pays, incidentally, when the Ravens posted it publicly they said the salary would be $4,000 to $5,000 per game. An NFL season consists of 20-24 games, including the preseason and potential playoff games, so it will end up somewhere between $80,000 and $120,000 a year. The person hired will be an independent contractor, which is commonplace in the NFL these days for team broadcasters, and also have other radio and TV hosting assignments.  https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article315839800.html
