For Yas and others that want a QB

I don't feel like we are in win-now mode at all. Even with a stud veteran QB, this team just isn't ready to compete for a Super Bowl right now. That's why I'm okay with taking a QB that may have to sit and learn for a season. We just need a veteran to be an example for our QB of the future. Not necessarily so we can change into world-beaters immediately.

Patience is something we all need to develop this offseason. I believe Rivera will do a good job. He and the team just need to get that chance.

THERE ARE NO QB'S IN THIS DRAFT THAT CAN START NOW!!! Even friggin Andrew Luck would NOT Turn this franchise around in one year and wouldn't do well his first year in the league.

If we want to turn this around NOW, AND build for the future its simple...trade for a Veteran, trade down from one, pick up more picks and take a QB to groom later. Its not rocket surgery folks.

Wow thanks for enlightening us all with this revolutionary idea

What exactly is this? I've heard "It's not rocket science" or i've heard "It's not heart surgery" but I've never heard of "rocket surgery"...

That being said, rocket science or open heart surgery is probably way easier than fixing our current QB situation which I think is what you meant by comparing it to "rocket surgery"

Those NASA scientist come up with something new everyday

I use to work with a guy that worked for NASA during the late 60's. He was a rocket scientist. I asked him what he did and he told me he worked on the propulsion system and began telling me about how dangerous it was to use hydrogen and liquid rocket fuel as apposed to the safer solid rocket fuel they use now. His name is Chet, he is a very smart man.

But even he was not "rocket surgeon". I don't know where you go to get a degree for that.

Look offer Washington our 4th rounder which is essentially a 3rd and get mcNabb. Or try for Orton or Kolb, guys that are openly available. Trade down a few spots, get a 2nd rounder back and take a QB. But all this whining and bitching about the QB position is moot with a pick at #1. In fact picking at QB at #1 could stall our return to the playoffs.

Again, sounds great in theory. Rarely works. And it stalls any real move toward solidifying your future in this division.

Why give up a fourth round pick for a guy that will be a FA as soon as there is a new CBA and underperformed in Washington? That would be the worst idea ever.

Or try to get Orton who has been replaced at now two different stops. If he isn't good enough for you he is good enough for us right??

As far as stalling our return to the playoffs, you said trade back and get a QB in a later round. Sounds reasonable. The only problem is that when you look at this past season if you focus on the 14 teams that had a winning record last year, 12 of those 14 teams had QB's that were selected in the first 33 picks of the draft. That means that waiting to find a QB in a later round will actually in all likelihood stall our return to the playoffs more than selecting a QB number one overall.

If you want a team that uses stop gap theory and looks for quick fixes, Dan Snyder and the Redskins always need new fans. :frown2:

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
