Morgan is impressing me

Recommended Posts

I will say that I can see Dan Morgan putting his mark on the roster, for sure.  It's still a very thin roster in numerous places but you simply can't fix it all, all at once.  That said, this is his second offseason.  He's quickly running out of excuses . . . which isn't a negative, it's just the truth.

If we can get to 8 wins this year, I'll be impressed.  Most teams feel like they "win" the offseason . . . but reality in the form of regular season games will kick most of them in the *&@.

I suspect Morgan has at least a couple of more years before his ass is susceptible to seat temperature changes.  But, you're right, we have to start seeing some perceptible improvement in 2025.

I mean, I understand the excitement, but I have to see it on the field. I think we also must remember that the only real place we can go is up, as the defense--the run defense in particular--was pretty horrible last season. I'm not going to get excited over crackers because I only had crumbs. I gotta see some damned meat. So, I'll withhold judgment, and simply give an optimistic nod at this time.

And, that's another thing: Bryce has to continue to improve. The Panthers ceiling, to a large degree, is his ceiling. I want to believe he has turned the corner, but let me see it beginning in September against good competition.

Gonna be interesting how he handles the Clowney and possibly Wonnum contracts--cutting them would be $14m in cap room--not sure I would do it, but we signed Jones and you want your rookies to play to get experience....

That had a LOT to do with TMac in round 1...

He seems to be sticking to his board and stacking talent. Which is what great franchises like Pittsburgh and Baltimore have done.

They picked Tet because they ranked him higher than the defensive players available.

They took multiple edges because they felt like that’s where the value was. Princely was a guy who probably should’ve went R2. I think long run this will payoff. Stacking talent with playmakers and the front 7 after building the O-Line last year.

    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
