If we can generate a pass rush we won't need all world safeties back there

I understand the theory but if that were true, why did we let Chinn go and didn’t we just draft Chinn V2.0?  If Evero couldn’t figure out how to use Chinn effectively, what is different about Ransom?  Not trying to be argumentative but, make it make sense

One of the few picks that made sense.  I don't mind this pick at all.

I was pumped to get him.  I also think we are going to be pleasantly surprised by the TE Evans.

Because Chinn couldn't cover

I like we got a TE that's a true in-line guy.  I like his potential, but that's all it is as this point...potential.

Both of our safeties can play deep in cover 1, 2, 3, 4. They can read run quickly and they take smart angles.  They can cover most RBs and TEs in man.  Before, we had some Willie Mays playing Center field 20 yards off the ball.

he had a good 2023 and I hope he gets over the injury bug.

And Ransom?  I don’t follow OSU so, I have only seen the highlight videos and write-ups.  He is a heat seeking missile in run defense but questionable in coverage.  I really hope that assessment is incorrect and he comes with coverage skills but, the write-ups I’ve read list coverage skills in the ‘weakness’ category.

If that is true, then I’m liking this pick a whole lot more.

Ransom isn't being brought in to be the free/boundary safety. He's coming in to be the back-up and eventual replacement for Trevon Moehrig as the strong/box safety.

Moehrig's current deal has his cap hit leaping from $7.2M this season to $21.3M next season and $22.5M in 2027. He can be cut then though to save $16.5M.

Ransom being a day three pick means that he's going to have to cut his teeth on special teams and be ready to rotate in if Moehrig goes down.

I believe that the team is still looking to bring in Blackmon to be the starting FS, but could see them opting to see what Demani does as the starter.

PFF had Swinson above both Scourton and Princely and he was available at both picks. There were also several running backs they ranked ahead of Etienne that we didn't take.

So I don't think it's that simple.

bro you read it wrong or something.

scourton is 29

swinson is 47

princely is 50 basically same edge.

Ill give you eitenne wasn't highly rated, but his trait was by PFF- Trevor Etienne's 10-yard split at the NFL Combine was 1.51 seconds. This time ranked second-best among running backs at the combine, tied with another player. Looking for PFF traits, they also said he was a perfect zone system fit, the Panthers run zone base.

PFF only gave 3 A+ grades, Panthers were one of them. 100% played a role, one of new hires started PFF and they were using his new/old models. Dave talked about getting updates on player runs, there was a RB one right at eitenne.

    • And once again I showed you it’s been pretty even. We spent 2nd and 3rd rounders this past draft on edge rushers. No one’s going to sit here and do the math on a draft value chart etc. the only reason I even entertained this was because you said we’ve spent nothing on defense when that simply isn’t true. It also didn’t help we traded our ONLY WR worth a damn to trade up for Bryce soo… And this is kind of the issue with the anti Bryce crowd. This crowd tends to blame him for the trade up. I was team Stroud. Had the panthers not taken Young the only other QB they were going to take was Richardson. So your issue should be with Tepper, Morgan, Fitterer not Bryce.  Bryce is who he is and it was pretty obvious who he was during the draft process. Bryce is slowly developing into that guy most thought he’d be. Give him a WR like Jamo and this offense as a whole would improve greatly.  Anyone thinking he was the next Pat Mahomes or Josh Allen is clearly slow. Bryce was always going to need pieces around him much like EVERY other QB Burrow has Chase and Higgins and they’ve done nothing. After losing in AFC Championship in 2022, Burrow is 17-15. QB’s need a team around them It’s why a Jalen Hurts led Eagles team dismantled a Pat Mahomes led KC team in the SB Imo the QB’s doing the most with the least up until this year have been Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson  This year it’s Drake Maye and Josh Allen  Outside of the 3-5 elite type QB’s I’m not really sure what people expect here. Is Bryce ever going to be in that elite category? Nope. Should we punt on Bryce and keep swinging? I don’t think so. Should we keep swinging while hanging onto Bryce? Yeah but I don’t know what that looks like This team as a whole isn’t very good. Offense and defense and that’s the simple truth
    • I didn't move the goal posts. But anyone who follows football who wants to engage in a rational discussion can't argue that 10 7th round picks are equal to 10 1st rounders in value. The argument has always been we haven't spent as much on defense has we have on offense. Draft picks have value just like salary. We have not spent the same amount of draft pick salary cap on defense that we have on offense since drafting Bryce. It's not even close. Just the 2 1sts we used on Bryce, 2 overall 1sts have a value of 6000. That doesn’t even factor in DJ Moore or the 2 2nds. Bryce cost more than everything we've spent on defense in 6 damn years.
    • We need to hope this scenario plays our next week he fails with pressure…what that means with Evero, is beyond me
