I don't think it has anything to do with Chinn. I mean, Chinn was a LB/safety tweener where Walker is am EDGE/LB tweener. Really different players and how we used Chinn was really kinda forced on us by our roster. He wasn't good in a deep safety role but he was the best option we had. Now I would argue that we should've still used Chinn where he was most effective but that's just me. I don't see how you're making a D better by misusing one of your better talents.

It does seem like the Raiders are finally starting to use him how he should be used if you're going to play him at safety.

I thought he was in washington last year and just got picked up by raiders this off-season.

Basically a reflection of Evero's general inflexibility about square pegs in his defense.

Yeah, I just haven't been impressed. Most NFL coaches can do a good job if given great pieces to fit their schemes but the great ones can tailor their schemes to fit the pieces that they have available. The Panthers haven't had any great ones. We've had a bunch of square pegs in round holes type of guys and every now and then we've assembled the right pegs to field some legit squads. Now with that said, what Canales was able to do after Bryce returned from his benching was pretty damn impressive. That actually gives me some hope we might have found a head coach.

He hasn't played a snap for the Raiders yet. Those are stats from the Redskins.

Ive come to accept the Tmac pick, it is what it is, but if we are passing up talent because of our coordinator who is on the hottest of hot seat that seems next level stupid

Eh, TBH, I would rather have had T-Mac than Walker, regardless.

I was not one that was that high on Walker.

I said it a million times leading up to the draft, Walker never made any sense to me.

He's a 4-3 OLB who plays mostly off ball but can be used as a situational pass rusher.

If you're taking an OLB when you run a 3-4, they need to be more of a full time pass rusher who has the ability to set the edge and also play DE when you switch up to a 4-3 alignment.

That's just not Walker, he very well may be a great player in the end, but you don't take a 4-3 OLB at #8 when you run a 3-4, square peg meet round hole.

I just think they thought the drop off from TMac to a round 2 WR was greater than Walker to a round 2 edge like we got in Scourton. Remember teams like LAR and SF were trying to trade up for TMac with a similar thought process.

That's absolutely true too, but I also don't think they ever truly considered Walker an edge either.

Just look at who we took and compare them to Walker from a size standpoint, they couldn't be any more different.

If T-Mac was taken before we were on the clock, I still don't think we'd have taken Walker in the end anyways, at least not without a trade back first.

Makes sense.  I guess you can replace Walker with a bigger edge like Williams and still the same applies.  I'd put Scourton right there with any of them not named Carter.
