Sounds like Dave and Dan were getting intel from the current rostered players about draft prospects rather than players going to them to pine for certain draft prospects. I doubt our previous staffs put much thought or value into the fact that a lot of our 2nd and 3rd season players have more real world experience with upcoming draft picks than some old ass scouts probably half-assing their reports

big picture though, that largely sounds like a horrible idea to go about things.  Not saying I think they did that.  Think the illusion of that is largely just PRish of presenting a image of things working out well.  But yeah, you don't want your WR influencing who you draft at TE.  Players are going to be bringing crazy bias into the equation and a 23 year old struggling QB shouldn't be making your top 10 pick.

I agree that they most likely leaned on their own scouting and intel to evaluate talent, but there's nothing wrong with picking the brains of current rostered players.  If nothing else it promotes unity and team building and maybe another angle to evaluate, the more info the better. As long as it's just part of the process and not the whole process I'm okay with it.

I always thought about asking players about that years draftable rookies. I would take the good/great stuff very lightly. But the bad or cancer stuff, that's going in the file.... If some current player tells me another player from their school is lazy and always in trouble, get that confirmed and lose that players name.

Like for rumor too, lots of times they are fake these days. If a player has first hand information, why not listen?? I get they can overrate their friends and school, but there's more to it than "he's cool". Maybe the guy played hurt the whole season and didn't let no one know but his close friends.

I'd also hire some top recruiter every 2-3 years to stay up to date on information as well.

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
